|Purpose: |Information to be shared with staff and clients in the community. |

|Background: |It is important for staff and clients to take the time to prepare for emergencies. Being prepared helps to |

| |minimize the impact of a large disaster such as a flood or a personal emergency such as a broken leg. |

|What’s new, changed, or |Resources are available to assist people with disabilities and older adults. The American Red Cross and the |

|Clarified |National Organization on Disability (NOD) provides many resource tools, numerous guides, tips, checklists and|

| |strategies for reaching people with disabilities and older adults. The sites have information on how to |

| |prepare for specific emergencies such as: |

| |Earthquakes |

| |Floods |

| |Winter storms |

| |Fires |

| |Volcanoes |

| |Tsunamis |

| |Mudslides |

| |Chemical Emergencies |

| |The sites also address animal safety, commuter safety, preparing your home, family and finances for |

| |disasters. This information is useful for clients and staff, and can be downloaded at no cost. |
