SPELLCHECKER IN MS WORD SUPPORT

Why use UK English spellchecker?

It is a good idea to check your work using UK English spellchecker before submission, as some markers may not accept the use of American English. There are some differences between UK and American English. These include:

Spellings (e.g. colour/color) Grammar (e.g. use of semi-colons) Stylistic issues (e.g. use of some nouns as verbs, such as "leveraging")

How do I know if the spellchecker is picking up all of my mistakes?

Remember that the spellchecker is just a tool, and that any tool used incorrectly may still cause damage to your work.

Consider whether you want to use the autocorrect feature or not (accessible from the Word Options button, in the main menu). It will correct a word according to its list of words which it believes to be similar to your word. For example:

Word you intended to type: definitely Incorrect spelling of word: definantly Word that spellchecker automatically defaults to: defiantly

Word you intended to type: surprised Incorrect spelling of word: surpised Word that spellchecker automatically defaults to: surpassed Finally, remember that some words may appear to be American in spelling (such as "organize"), but that there are accepted UK English spellings of this term as well, so ensure that you carefully check your work yourself before submitting it.
