How to use the Countdown in my classroom?

1. Print out the Large Letter Tiles (you can divide them into vowels and consonants if you like)

2. Pick 16 letters and display these letter in your classroom 3. Have the children write down the 16 letters on their Make A Word

sheet 4. Let the children use these letters to create words. (You can adopt

whatever rules you like here. For example- words could be created by using adjoining letters ? the letters must touch each other ? and must be able to connect to each other in the proper sequence to spell the word correctly. The letters may join in any direction ? horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. This means that the letters can be above or below, side by side, or touching corners. Words can be spelled in any direction, including backwards.) 5. Share your answers

Good Activity for :

Whole class Station teaching in literacy (can be an independent station,

including practising consulting a reference) Homework assignment If a child is particularly gifted in spelling and has completed all 40

levels on the Spellings For Me website, this could replace their spelling homework.
