The editors of the 2018 edition of the Times Higher Education's World University Rankings examined data points for more than 1,500 institutions. More than 1,100 universities ultimately appear in the Top 1,000 ranking.

THE rankings use 13 performance indicators, grouped into 5 areas:

1) Teaching Area (30%) Reputational survey (15%) Student faculty ratio (4.5%) Doctorates awarded to faculty

ratio (6%) University income per faculty

member (2.25%) Doctorate to bachelor's ratio

(2.25%) 2) Research Area (30%) Reputation for research

excellence (18%) Research Income (6%) Research Output (6%) 3) Citations Area (30%) 4) Industry Income Area (2.5%) 5) International Outlook Area

(7.5%) Int'l to domestic staff ratio

(2.5%) Int'l to domestic student ratio
