Course Description: World History Studies is the only course at Grosse Pointe High School offering students an overview of the entire history of humankind. The major emphasis is on the study of significant people, events, and issues from the earliest times to the present. Traditional historical points of reference in world history are identified as students analyze important events and issues in western civilization as well as in civilizations in other parts of the world. This course will provide an examination of: ancient civilizations, empire building, middle ages, revolutions, global conflicts and current events. The emphasis is on western civilizations, but includes relevant history of other regions of the world.

Description of Work: There will be a variety of formats used for covering the curriculum as outlined by the state of Michigan and the Grosse Pointe School District. Students are expected to participate in classroom activities, be on-time, complete homework/projects, and keep, maintain, and write in a regular notebook. Textbooks will be used in the classroom, but we will not rely on the text alone. Power Points, projects, documentaries, and simulations will be used to demonstrate particular world history events. The adjustment from middle school to high school may be difficult, so do not hesitate to ask questions, approach me, and work hard in general.

Classroom Expectations: The way to provide a classroom environment that is conducive to all of our rights to learn is to have clear, written rules that outline appropriate behavior and the consequences of infractions of these rules. My desire is to have a classroom format that can allow us to interact with one another in discussions, activities, and group interactions. These guidelines may be modified in the future if necessary.

1) Come to class prepared. This means bring your packet, binder, paper, and something to write with!

2) Treat your teacher and your classmates with respect!

3) I do not accept late work. Homework is typically checked before bell rings.

4) Students are not permitted to use cell phones during class unless specifically indicated by Mr. Booth.

5) Class begins when the bell rings and we never line up at the door! Typically, I check homework before class even starts, so please be prepared with your homework before class starts.

Grading: Grades are always accessible on Pinnacle and you can gain access to Pinnacle from my website directly. If you have a question regarding your grade please inquire in person. Grades are typically based on the following:
