The Math Quest Teacher's Resource Pack is based on guidelines and aids to support and supplement classroom teaching. The aim of this pack is to empower teachers so that the process of teaching and learning becomes interesting and interactive. The tools and techniques provided will ensure a seamless flow of knowledge so that the students take an inherent interest in the subject. The main purpose of the pack is to allay the fear of Maths from the minds of the students such that they develop an inherent liking for the subject and become curious to know more. Teacher's Manual

Teacher's Manual has been developed to provide teaching guidelines to teachers so that they are prepared to teach a topic in the best possible manner. Learning Objectives

Students will be able to recapitulate numbers up to 999 form, read and understand numbers up to 9999 understand place value, face value of digits in 4-digit numbers and their expanded forms compare and order 4-digit numbers build 4-digit numbers using the given digits without repetition of the digits round o the numbers to the nearest 10 understand the concept of even and odd numbers

Concept Explanation ? Students are already familiar with the numbers up to 999. ? Recapitulate the concept of numbers up to 999 using the Gear Up section given in the

textbook.

Forming 4-digit numbers ? Explain to students how the smallest 4-digit number, that is, 1000 is formed by adding 1

to the largest 3-digit number, that is, 999. Also introduce the thousands place. ? Next introduce the multiples of 1000. You can use blocks of the number 1000 and form

thousands by adding 1000 in each step. ? Explain to students the standard form and the expanded form of 4-digit numbers with

the help of various examples. e numbers should be formed by representing them on their place value charts. Blocks of thousands, hundreds, tens and ones can also be used to form and read 4-digit numbers for easy comprehension. Work on di erent possibilities of 0 in di erent places. ? Call out 4-digit numbers and let the students write them out in their notebooks. ? Abacus can also be used to understand and read 4-digit numbers. ? To reinforce the concept ask the students to do Growing With Values section from the textbook and make them understand how bicycle, rickshaw, etc. are helpful to make our environment clean. ? Instruct them to do Check Point 1.1 from the textbook.
