for folks to be involved with in 2018. We will

begin a series of Diabetes Education,

partnering with Quality Insights, beginning

in March. If you are a diabetic, these free

education seminars are designed to help you

understand diabetes and its management. See

We are also partnering with the University of

Charleston's School of Pharmacy to offer FREE

education and hands-on activities to seniors and their caregivers

on safe medication use, disposal, and management of medication

annually beginning February 2018. They have a fall and spring session

that are different - spring session-Medication Safety and fall session-

Preventative Health.

Our Family Caregiver Day Program is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association in an evidence-based, 12 hour training over a six week period for people providing care for a family member with dementia. Also, they are planning a Senior Conference in the Spring- all information found within this newsletter!

We are planning a NEW Fund Raiser to support the services we provide to seniors! We will be having a 27 Days of Christmas featuring a different set of prizes daily from April 15th - December 25, 2018. We will begin selling $10 tickets for this event in the next month and continue through the end of the event in December! The next newsletter, we will begin listing the prizes, as well!

The Holiday Season may be behind us, but KVSS wants to keep the Christmas spirit going all year round with our "27 Days of Christmas" raffle giveaway. Starting April 15th we will begin drawing prizes on select dates leading up to Christmas Day. There will be a drawing every day in the month of December.

How to Play: Ticket price- $10 a drawing will take place at 9am at our 2428 Kanawha Blvd location. All tickets will return to circulation for remaining drawings. Prizes for weekends will be drawn on Friday. Winning tickets will win the prizes listed for that date.

West Virginia Silver Haired Legislature

February 9, 2018 the Senate officers of the Silver Haired Legislature met at the Tiskelwah Senior Center at 11:30 a.m. They presented a Certificate of appreciation to the Executive Director of KVSS, Paulette Justice. KVSS has been very helpful to supply buses to and from meetings during the day or evening, always helpful and supportive in any way needed.

If you are over 60 years of age or older and would like to learn more about the Silver Haired Legislative process and identify solutions to common problems, come Join us.

KVSS is a non-profit 501(c)3organization created in the early 1970's to provide programs of service to individuals in the scenic and historic Kanawha Valley of West Virginia. The mission of Kanawha Valley Senior Services (KVSS) helps seniors age successfully. Programs range from assisting elders and veterans in their own home to the adult Alzheimer Day Center to helping well-elderly with socialization and preventive measures. Our organization offers an ever-growing array of senior activities such as employment, nutrition, shopping, quilting, sewing, painting, poetry, computer lessons, Tai Chi, Healthy Steps Class Zumba, Bingo, Big-Screen Movie Days, life-enrichment and continuing education courses, gardening, cooking classes and so much more. KVSS coordinates and cooperates with federal, state, and county agencies to assure that health, educational, recreational, intergenerational and economic benefits are readily available to senior citizens. The organization is passionately dedicated to the mission of making the broad spectrum of services happen. Truly our success is possible because of past contributions, donations, grants, and fundraisers--not to mention the wonderful host of staff and clients.
