( PROFILE OF MOHAMMAD SAIFUL ISLAM

Mohammad Saiful Islam is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Fiqh & UÎËl al-Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He has over 8 years of teaching, research, translation and administrative experience at university, International schools, and Islamic NGO’s levels in Bangladesh and Malaysia. His major research interest is in Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic SharÊÑah Compliance in Banking and Finance, especially SharÊÑah Compliance Auditing, Islamic Education Research and Women Judicial Leadership Issues in Modern Context. He is going to complete his doctoral thesis on “SharÊÑah Compliance Audit in Islamic Banking and Finance: A Comparative Study between Bank Islam Malaysia (BIMB) and Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL)”.

Mohammad Saiful Islam did his First Master at the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) in Bangladesh and Second Master at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). His Bachelor Degree was also completed from the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) in Bangladesh. The Prior to starting his Ph.D. he served more than three and half years as an administrative assistant in the international student division at IIUM. He has published more than 10 articles in various conference proceedings in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand on diverse areas of Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic education and the SharÊÑah compliance issues in Islamic banking and finance.

B. RESEARCH PROJECT

1. The title of the project was “Perception of Women in Judicial Leadership as a Judge in Modern Context: A Critical Study of the Responses of Muslim Scholars” under Dr. Md. Yusuf Ali, Associate Professor, Department of General Studies. International Islamic University Malaysia. The project was financed by Research Management Centre (RMC), IIUM with the value of RM 3500.00. The main objective of this study was to analyze the perception of classical and modern scholars on the women judicial leadership particularly in the SharÑÊah court. My role was as a Research Assistant for the project in 2009-2010.

2. I have completed a contingency research project entitled “Islamic Ethics and Core Values” under Dr. Azimuth Abdul Aziz, Director at Khalifa Achievers Centre (One of the renowned Islamic NGO’s in Malaysia), Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia. The fund received for this project was RM 3000 thousands. The main objective of this study was to find out the Quranic and Sunnatic evidence in relating the ethics and values among the core values of human life. There were 25 values have been selected for the research. My role was as a Research Assistant for the project in 2008.
