Subject: Inaugural Spay/Neuter Clinic for Community Cats is Huge Success at Yolo County Animal Shelter

Contact: Vicky Fletcher, Chief Officer, Animal Services 530.668.5256, Mike Nevis (Sgt) 530.668.5236

Date: September 26, 2013

Sunday, September 22nd, marked a special day for Yolo County Animal Services ? the first ever low-cost Spay/Neuter Clinic for community cats in Yolo County! Yolo County Animal Services is committed to humanely managing the community cat populations in Yolo County, and is dedicated to supporting the County's growing network of cat rescuers and trappers who are practicing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) in their communities, so this event was an exciting milestone. In partnership with the Yolo County SPCA, Yolo County Animal Services was able to provide affordable spay/neuter, ear tipping, vaccines, flea treatment and FeLV/FIV testing to community cats from cat colonies all over the County. Yolo County Animal Services and SPCA volunteers and staff, as well as U.C. Davis veterinary students, worked alongside to register the cats, prep them for surgery, provide all the medical care needed, monitor the cats post-op, and discharge the newly "snipped" cats back to their rescuer. Vicky Fletcher (Chief Animal Services Officer) supplied lunch for all the volunteers, and Yolo County Animal Services distributed free wet and dry cat food from its Pet Food Pantry to the participants. The event was such a huge success that Yolo County Animal Services and the Yolo County SPCA have already scheduled its next spay/neuter clinic for Sunday October 6th.

Yolo County Animal Services is asking for the public's help with donations of fleece blankets (lap size), and Community/Feral cat traps.
