The package is about my experience with the Periodic Table through social media, Element of the month competition and daily lives in the form of a diary. I

have used the element symbols to represent the dates for the diary entries, for example, Cl-N-Ca K represents the date of 17-7-2019 and I have put the real

dates in brackets next to the symbols for reference. The article includes the main idea and further expressions on my article for Element of the month

competition. Also, social media like Youtube, IG and some webpages about science, which are mentioned in the Appendix, are also included in the package. I

also include some daily lives example of how the Periodic Table affects our daily lives and explain to things happening from time to time. Through this

package, I would like to share my thoughts on the Periodic Table. As it is very important to our lives, I want to show to the audience that we have to

protect the elements in the Periodic Table from getting used up. This package includes 6 pages with 1 page of cover page, 4 pages for main article and 1 page

-----------------------

Today is my birthday! Except celebrating with friends, I also wanted to celebrate with my favourite Periodic Table. Therefore I decided to look back to my “Element of the Month” articles which I have joined since February. Although the article may require some time for research and design, it is fun to do. At the same time, I can understand more about the elements in the Periodic Table.

The first article I wrote is titled “The Hope of Our Future” Helium-3”. It is about an isotope of Helium. The energy that non-toxic and non-radioactive Helium-3 can generate is higher than most of the fossil fuels we use for energy today. Using Helium-3 to generate energy is a useful way to slow down global warming on Earth.

The second article is "Breaking News: Doctor K is saving us!” It is about a ‘doctor’ that we meet every day, doctor K, Potassium. Potassium is present in vegetables which can maintain our healthy nerve function in our nervous system and prevents us from getting different kinds of diseases, such as osteoporosis.

The third article is titled “O, Our Saviour Easter Egg!” I wrote a poem about Oxygen, our ‘saviour’ who looks like an Easter egg. We cannot live without oxygen in our lives which help our body to carry out different kinds of reactions and transportation. Therefore, in this joyful Easter, we should be thankful to our all-time ‘Saviour’ Oxygen.

ELEMENT OF THE MONTH

It is the middle of the summer holiday. It’s so boring to stay at home. So, I decided to search online about science and Periodic Table and I had much impression afterwards!

I have started to know about the Periodic Table since form 1. My science teacher introduced The Periodic Table Song by AsapScience to us. It is an interesting song to listen and learn the elements in the Periodic Table in an enjoyable way. I remember my friends and I had a fun time singing “Hydrogen and Helium then Lithium Beryllium …” before morning assembly, at recess, lunch time, after school and even when we are chatting in Whatsapp! I guess this Periodic Table song has brought us great memories at school.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Apart from the Periodic Table song by AsapScience, I have found an interesting post on their social media page today, the post about the old Periodic Table. It only contains “Earth”, “water”, “air”, “fire”, these 4 elements. Comparing this old Periodic Table to our Periodic Table now, we can see that we have truly come a long way! I feel very impressed by the effort paid off by the scientists for the research on every element in the Periodic Table!

Furthermore, I have found information about the Periodic Table on social media. There is another post about the Periodic Table, showing the place where the elements are found, such as UK, Sweden, Germany, France, etc. The teamwork of the scientists from different places in the world to find every element is greatly admired.

I couldn’t stop searching the about the history of Periodic Table as they are so interesting and relatable to our lives. So, today I searched about it again.

These are some screenshots from a video about the 300 years of discovery of the Periodic Table which attracted me to watch. It shows the process of the discovery of every element in the Periodic Table, starting from 1718 with 13 elements until 2018 with all the 118 elements. I have the same feeling as when I saw the old Periodic Table. I feel much honored that I can study the Periodic Table which the scientists and researchers have spent so much efforts and time on it.

These are pictures of a website I have found on the internet about the Periodic Table. You can click on any element and check its information such as discovery date, the person discovered it, origin of the name, etc. It is a very interesting and attractive web to learn more about the Periodic Table and the elements in it. For example, I have learnt that the name of the element we need every second, Oxygen, comes from the Greek “oxy genes”, meaning acid forming. This website also provides a filter to check the state of the elements at different temperature. This website has definitely improved my knowledge of the Periodic Table. I believe that whenever I have questions about the Periodic Table, this website can always help me.

Today is my friend’s birthday. We went to a party room to celebrate. There were some balloons with emojis. They floated to the ceiling after I released them. Then, I realized that they were all filled with helium! It is the stable replacement of hydrogen to fill balloons, which is very dangerous and reactive. Although this is a common example related to the Periodic Table in our daily lives, it still amazed me. This made me feel even more interested in our daily live science!

SCIENCE IN PARTY ROOM

Today is the last day of the summer holiday. It’s time to pack my school bag and get ready for school. In this summer, I have experienced so much about the Periodic table and science in daily lives.

I remember that I had no feelings about the Periodic Table before. It was like just a small part of my studies. But after I have discovered so much about it, I realized that it is a very important thing in everyone’s lives. No matter where we are, the elements of the Periodic Table are still with us. These are the major reasons to explain the things happening in our lives, for example, the floating helium-filled balloon I have mentioned, the neon-filled light bulb, the oxygen we breathe in, the chlorine poisonous gas weapon in WW1, etc. All the tiny and large things happening in our lives or in the history can be explained according to the Periodic Table information. This explains why the Periodic Table is so important and why I like it so much.

As it is very important to our lives, we have to protect it. According to the researches, elements used in mobile devices containing conflict elements like gold, arsenic and indium are set to run out in the next 100 years, which means the Periodic Table is going to lose some of its elements! Since the Periodic Table helps us a lot, we should have the responsibility to protect the elements inside. Therefore, actions like recycling unused mobile or technological devices should be taken.

To my favorite Periodic table, thank you for giving me so much impression. Now, it’s time for us to take action and protect any one of your parts from disappearing!
