Phil's Ponderings: 1,000 Miles (x2)
At the beginning of 2020, I set a New Year's resolution to run 1,000 miles throughout the upcoming year. Additionally, I also hoped to bike 1,000 miles as well. These were big goals for me! As I finalize this article (on December 29), I have logged 993 miles of running and 971 miles of biking, which took a total of about 181 hours (I have plans to finish both goals on Dec. 30 and 31!). While I ran and biked, I listened to around 39 audiobooks on a variety of topics, including biblical interpretation, ministry, running, racism/white privilege, and the enneagram.
As I look back on 2020 and all the challenges we have faced individually, communally, and globally, I am grateful for the big goals I set at the beginning of the year. Exercising while listening to audiobooks has become an important spiritual discipline for me because it keeps me grounded in the present while energizing my mind, body, and spirit. It helps me journey through the anxieties of the past, present, and future and keeps me focused on who God is calling me to be right now.
What spiritual disciplines are important to you? What practices keep you grounded and focused? As we look to 2021 and the challenges, transitions, and opportunities ahead, what big goals might you set that will help sustain and energize you through the upcoming weeks and months? I invite you to dream big and then take little steps to help your big goals become reality. As for me, I'll keep running and biking and listening to audiobooks as I continue to pursue becoming the person God has called me to be. Onward!

Katherine's Candor
Happy New Year, dear Tabor Family! Many of us (myself included) are hoping that 2021 will be better than 2020. Indeed, there are hopeful happenings on the horizon, such as the development and distribution of the coronavirus vaccine.
It's really easy to dwell on the horrible things that took place this past year. There is much to lament, and yet, there were also a lot of wonderful things that happened both despite and because of the global pandemic. I am grateful for the meaningful conversations that took place during Zoom faith formation and for the opportunity to share openly and pray for each other. I am grateful for the amazing children's faith formation videos and activities; our children looked forward to the new "Parrot and Pirate" video each week and they especially enjoyed connecting with their friends over Zoom. I am grateful for the opportunity to worship outside in the beauty of creation and to spend time in meaningful fellowship in the parking lot.
Even though many things from this past year have felt frustrating and frightening, these things (among others) have assured me that God's Spirit continues to work for good in the church and in the world. May we carry this hope and this assurance with us into the new year.
~Pastor Katherine
