Purpose This standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to detail how to install and configure Fortinet VPN (v6.2) to remote access the Fullerton College private network from your Windows 10 computers or laptop from home.

Scope This SOP is for Fullerton College staff who want to remotely access their desktop computer including your Fullerton College networked drives. There might be is an easier alternate to access your files through OneDrive, see separate SOP.

PROCESS/PROCEDURE:

1. Make sure that you have proper authorization from your manager for this access since it is a high security risk. A safer choice would be using OneDrive for your own work files and using Teams for the files you collaborate wither others.

2. Put-in an Order Request at for "Remote Desktop Access" and include your computer's host name (For help with getting your computer's host name, watch: ). The request will be reviewed for proper authorization, then the Remote Desktop will be activated. You then will be notified to start the next step 3 from your Win 10 computers or laptop from home. You need to have "local admin" access to install software on your computer (some District bought laptops won't have this right and need to be done by ACT).

4. Scroll down to the Virtual Private Network section.

5. Based on your Operating System click on the appropriate link to download the VPN Client.

6. This step differs depending on your Browser of choice, but you will need to Save and then Run the application. (By default, the download file will be in "Downloads" folder)

In Edge you can simply click on Run:

7. Select the link on the taskbar for Fortinet VPN Setup.

8. Once the Setup Window is open, select "Yes", then "Next"

9. You will next be asked to choose a Destination Folder, click "Next" to choose the default folder:

10. Select "Install" to begin the installation:

11. Select "Finish" and restart your system:

12. After your system reboots, select the "FortiClient VPN" shortcut on your desktop:

13. Check the acknowledgement statement and select "I Accept".
