The Lord be with you. and also with you. Almighty God,to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:cleanse the thoughts of our heartsby the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,and worthily magnify your holy name;through Christ our Lord. Amen. The minister invites everyone to recall their shortcomings. After a few moments we say together the prayer of confession. Most merciful God,Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,we confess that we have sinnedin thought, word and deed.We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercyforgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are,and direct what we shall be;that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God.Amen.Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen. Lord have mercy. The GloriaGlory be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord, the only begotten Son Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. AmenThe CollectGod our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AmenThe New Testament reading Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, ‘Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way.?For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, “To an unknown god.” What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.?The God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands,?nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things.?From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live,?so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him—though indeed he is not far from each one of us.?For “In him we live and move and have our being”; as even some of your own poets have said, “For we too are his offspring.” Since we are God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals.?While God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to repent,?because he has fixed a day on which he will have the world judged in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.’Acts 17:22-31A responsorial psalm -R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.Cry out with joy to God, all the earth;?????O sing to the glory of his name.O render him glorious praise.?????Say to God, “How awesome your deeds!“Before you all the earth shall bow down,?????shall sing to you, sing to your name!”Come and see the works of God:?????awesome his deeds among the children of men.He turned the sea into dry land;?????they passed through the river on foot.Let our joy, then, be in him;?????he rules forever by his e and hear, all who fear God;?????I will tell what he did for my soul.Blest be God, who did not reject my prayer,?????nor withhold from me his merciful love. The Gospel is announcedA reading from the Holy Gospel according to JohnAll Glory to you, O Lord.If you love me, you will keep my commandments.?And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever.?This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. ‘I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.?In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live.?On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.?They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.’John 14:15-21At the end of the reading:This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ.Sermon by the Revd Sandy CraggThe Anthem: Ave Verum (Mozart)Ave, verum corpus natumde Maria Virgine:vere passum, immolatumin cruce pro homine:cuius latus perforatumunda fluxit et sanguine:?esto nobis praegustatum,in mortis examine.Hail the true body, bornof the Virgin Mary:You who truly suffered and were sacrificedon the cross for the sake of man. From whose pierced flankflowed water and blood:Be a foretaste for usin the trial of death.IntercessionsDuring the prayers this response may be used: Lord, in your mercyhear our prayerand at the end: Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. The Peace:The peace of the Lord be always with you.And also with youLet us offer one another a sign of peace.Holy CommunionYours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. All things come from you, and of your own do we give you.The Lord is here. His Spirit is with us.Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.It is right to give thanks and praise. The priest says the first part of the eucharistic prayer and then we say: Holy, holy, holy,God of power and might,Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest!Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest! We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.Great is the mystery of faith:AllChrist has died:Christ is risen:Christ will come again.Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with St John the Evangelist, St John the Baptist and all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. All Amen.Sit or kneel for The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespassesas we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptationbut deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen. The priest breaks the consecrated bread with the words:We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the worldHave mercy on usLamb of God who takes away the sin of the worldHave mercy on usLamb of God who takes away the sin of the worldGrant us peaceDraw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. We say together the prayer of Spiritual Reception:Come Lord Jesus, dwell in me and send your Holy Spirit that I may be filled with your presence.?As the hem of your garment, touched in faith, healed the woman in the gospel, so may I be healed.?Although I cannot receive you in the sacrament I can, through this offering of my prayer, receive you in my heart; grant this for Christ’s sake. Amen. The priest prays the post communion prayer: God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life: may we thirst for you, the spring of life and source of goodness, through him who is alive and reigns, now and for ever.AmenThen we say together:Father of all,we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far offyou met us in your Son and brought us home.Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life;we who drink his cup bring life to others;we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world.Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us,so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name;through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Blessing after which the minister says: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.In the name of Christ. AmenA hymn is playedYou, living Christ, our eyes behold, amid your church appearing, all girt about your breast with gold and bright apparel wearing; your countenance is burning light, a sun resplendent in its might: Lord Christ, we see your glory.Your glorious feet have sought and found your own of every nation; with everlasting voice you sound the call of our salvation; your eyes of flame still search and scan the whole outspreading realm of man: Lord Christ, we see your glory.O risen Christ, today alive, amid your Church abiding, who now your blood and body give, new life and strength providing, we join in heavenly company to sing your praise triumphantly: Lord Christ, we see your glory!NoticesAs lock down eases - the “next” normal: ServicesIn typical Anglican style we are a community of equally different views as to whether you prefer the service from my study or from the church! So what we are going to do is try a service from the church, with a different (closer up) camera. However, it hasn’t been possible to get all the technology in place for this week and so the service this Sunday will be from my study again. As lock down eases - the “next” normal: VOLUNTEERS NEEDEDWhen the church is allowed to open for private prayer we are envisaging the need for a large number of volunteers to help staff the building (to keep it safe and offer a warm welcome to any visitors). We don’t know when this will be yet but wanted to ask you to do 2 things: think about whether you might be able to give us some time to help with this yourself and spread the word to friends and neighbours to ask them if they might be able to do so also.Christian Aid fund-raising in Kingston in May: Walk for a Whole WorldDuring CA Week 2020, we haven’t been able to collect house-to-house as in the past. In May 2019 the Kingston churches together collected about ?15,000, so we needed another strategy. By the time you read this, Jonathan and the five other members of the Kingston clergy (from St John’s, St Luke’s, the Methodist Church and the URC as well as All Saints) will very likely between them have completed well over a million steps in their Walk for a Whole World. They are asking all of us (and those whom we can reach) to donate to Christian Aid to help disadvantaged communities across the world protect themselves from the virus. There is a JustGiving page ( HYPERLINK "). Please share our page HYPERLINK " with your friends on social media. These can keep you updated on our campaign. Or use the text in the attached file as the basis for a personal email to friends or a message to your local WhatsApp group. Please display our poster (attached) where you can. Our (provisional) target in Kingston is ?10,000 - currently we are two-thirds of the way there. If you normally give cash or a cheque (payable to Christian Aid) at this time of year, you may want to continue doing so, as it avoids the small charge which JustGiving makes on all transactions.
