You’ll be able to find out how you can support your child at home and we will share methods, strategies and top tips about how to answer the questions. You will also be provided with the chance to purchase some recommended practice and revision guides from us. Later in the term, we will organise a SATs information evening to provide you with general information about the types of questions children will be asked, how they are organised in school and the support children are given to access them to their full potential. The children are engaging with their learning ahead of SATs and lots of children are asking for extra work they can do at home. Firstly, they need to be completing their weekly homework and reading at home every night, including over the weekend. We are happy to supply some extra work and there are lots of websites and apps available for practice and revision. -762001016000Maths – ArithmeticOne thing every child can do, which will have a huge impact on their speed and fluency, is to learning their times tables and the division facts. You can support them by reading with them, asking questions about what they are reading and encouraging them to pick a variety of books. Some questions you could ask are:What has happened in the story so far? What do you think will happen next? Who is your favourite character? Why? Who is the character you like least? Why? Does your opinion of this character change during the story? How? Why? Find two things the author wrote about this character that made him / her likeable? If you met one of the characters from the story, what would you say to him / her? Which part of the story is your favourite / least favourite? Why? Which part of the story was the funniest/scariest/ saddest/ happiest? Find some evidence in the text to support your opinion. Pick three favourite words or phrases from this chapter. Can you explain why you chose them?Did this book make you laugh? Can you explain what was funny and why?Does this book remind you of anything else you have read/seen/heard? How?Do you think the title of the book is appropriate? What would you have called it? What is the genre of the book: scifi, mystery, historical, fantasy, adventure, horror, comedy? What are the features that make you think this?Find two sentences which describe the setting. Is the plot fast or slow moving? Find some evidence in the text, which supports your view. Would you like to read another book by this author? Why / why not? We hope that you can attend the workshop on the 7th March and you find these recommendations useful. If you have any questions or concerns please come in and speak with the adults in class, we are more than happy to support in any way that we can, Miss Dyer. ................
