Your favourite media product, and/or your inspirational media practitioner (past and present). You also need to include your skills timeline which details the skills you joined the course with, and the skills you have nowYou also need to include your skills focus, which details and explains the skills you are considering developing and working on for your Extended Project.Chapter 2 – The ReportLiterature ReviewIntroductionHow do Soundtracks Affect the Experience of a Product?[NC UK] Koji Kondo InterviewYoutube (2009). [Online] Flickering Myth. Available at: [Accessed 8 Jan. 2018].15 Greatest Video Game Theme Songs of All TimeAll of the songs on this list were memorable and catchy and so they got stuck in your head, this is because they were written to be so, because the developers were creating a franchise and needed a good soundtrack to back it. Not only this but the themes were also relevant to the game with slow low strings and orchestral themes for the adventure games giving you a sense of grandeur, and also high pitched jovial themes for the platformers. This tells me that I need to create an original and possibly catchy tune, so people can recognise the game from the track giving it characteristic and enthusiasm. However, it also tells me that I need to make the track relevant, for example I would make a fast high pitched action theme for someone’s funeral. With this knowledge I think that I can make a better soundtrack that will be catchy and relevant for the player.Gustavo Santaolalla: The Music of the Last of UsSantaolalla talks about his freedom of being able to create whatever he wanted for the game, as well as his ability to experiment. This is because it gave him the gratification of learning and creating something truly unique and new, and this was one of the better things about the project. This gives me the idea of experimenting with my guitar, this could be by detuning some of the strings or it could be through changing the chords that I already know, both ways its letting me experiment and create new sounds to me which could be vital in creating an apocalyptic soundtrack.Fallout 4 Official Main Theme by Inon ZurThis track started off slowly, with a high pitch tone building-up into a greater song, for me this mirrors the development and improvement of mankind. After this a quite bomb sound plays and then the low strings come in, this mimics the atomic bombs dropping in the game and the fall of mankind after this. Finally you get the higher tones back over the lower tones, which for me symbolises your characters fight to improve the still baron and empty wasteland, with the high strings being the hope in your character and the low being the turmoil and contest against the wasteland. This song that you hear at the start of the game foreshadows the events that you’re about to play. However, since it is music this foreshadowing is vague for those who have not played the game.To me this says that I should have an underlying tone in my soundtrack that will reflect the emotions of the layer and possible events of the game. I could also create little nuances in the soundtrack to create a glimmer of hope for the player or a feeling of dread depending on the situation.Among The Walking Dead | A Conversation with Bear McCrearyFrom this interview I get the impression that Bear McCreary likes to emphasise the feeling of the viewer of the show with his score. However, he only used acoustic tracks in the first 3 seasons of the show, but decided to change it up when a new big villain arrives in the shape of the governor. I also earned that he watches an early cut of the episode to help him understand what type of track he needs to make. This helps me to understand that I will need a bit of concept art to help gauge my creative flow in order to create the soundtrack, I also think that I will develop a few scenarios where in which these tracks will be played.BibliographyYoutube (2009). Each experiment needs: -An introductionA clear explanation of what was undertaken A conclusion of how this information was used by you.ExampleIntroduction I am interested in lighting. I want to see how it is possible to film at night so that you can still see the action. I think this is an interesting skill to develop as it is making me further understand the technical aspects of lighting, and shows how lighting can become part of the narrative.Research Question – How to film at night? (so you can still see the action)Research plan – Literature review of any YouTube videos of “How to film at night”. Review on “Making of DVD’s” from famous night based films – any film noir filmReview any Ted TalksInternet search on the technical aspects of Analysis of Literature Review – what has your research revealed to you? What did you find out? What of that new information can you use? Design your Experiment – using your analysisExperiment – in TV studio, in Bedroom, outside.Analysis – of results of experiment, what worked? What didn’tExplanation of what was undertakenFollowing my literature review, it became clear that my darkness was never going to be real darkness. I had learnt the type of lights and reflectors that I needed to use. I practiced in a variety of locations. I then showed the footage to peers and lecturers to gauge their opinion. I also posted it to Twitter and gain some very helpful responses. ConclusionIt didn’t do what I really wanted. To get the scene as dark as I wanted, the actors had to have unnaturally bright lights on them which was not the look I wanted. It looked to staged and filmnoir”e”. I am going to experiment now, with filming at dusk, to see if that gives me more tonal variation, and allows for the feeling of dark, but the ability to see the action. We must be able to see all that you do. It does not serve you just to post the footage of “My filming in the Dark”. We must see the whole journey, from start to finish. You need to tell us what you did, what you learnt and how you might use it.You must also include any experiments that don’t work, and tell us why. You can learn as much from what went wrong as what went right.Chapter 4 - Unit 12 Presentation and Plans for Unit 13This chapter will include your presentation that you have given to the class and lecturers detailing the work and research you have produced, and your analysis of how that work, research and experimentation have informed your plans for Unit 13.Chapter 5 - Weekly Schedule of Work Week 1 w/c January 1st2018Introduction to Unit 12PowerPointTasks to be undertaken this weekApprovedMonday am x 3 A’s not inWednesday am x 3Monday pm x 2A’s not inThursday am x 3Tuesday am x 2Thursday pm x 1Tuesday pm x 2Friday am x 3Wednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1Week 2w/c January 8th 2018The Report PowerPointMain Research Question: -ApprovedTasks to be undertaken this weekMonday am x 3Wednesday am x 3Monday pm x 2Thursday am x 3Tuesday am x 2Thursday pm x 1Tuesday pm x 2Friday am x 3Wednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1Week 3w/c 15th January 2018Experimentation and Skills PowerPointMain Research Question: -ApprovedTasks to be undertaken this weekMonday am x 3Wednesday am x 3Monday pm x 2Thursday am x 3Tuesday am x 2Thursday pm x 1Tuesday pm x 2Friday am x 3Wednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1Week 4w/c 22nd January 2018Main Research Question: -ApprovedTasks to be undertaken this weekMonday am x 3Wednesday am x 3Develop a question to answer for the weekMonday pm x 2Thursday am x 3Use your guitar to create a trackTuesday am x 2Thursday pm x 1Replicate the track on different instrumentsTuesday pm x 2Friday am x 3Replicate the track with different tempos and strumming patternsWednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1Write-up my resultsWeek 5w/c 29th January 2018Main Research Question: -ApprovedTasks to be undertaken this weekMonday am x 3Wednesday am x 3Monday pm x 2Thursday am x 3Tuesday am x 2Thursday pm x 1Tuesday pm x 2Friday am x 3Wednesday am x 2Friday pm x 1Chapter 6 – Peer ReviewsWeek 1Reviewed by:-Week 2Reviewed by:- Wesley HabbershawI think this literature review is great, explaining his sources and how this will help him develop his own sound project, and explaining how each sound track how they interacted with the player by creating atmosphere. Week 3Reviewed by:- Aidan, James, and BillyVery WestonAdd a fade to the first trackAdd different effects for each earMake a stereo trackWork on the loopsWeek 4Reviewed by:-Benjaman GreenIt was good however the last piece requires development, it was too deep and low for a zombie attack and so that need improvement but the first two set the scene very well and synergises well.Week 5Reviewed by:-Chapter 7– Weekly Progress TrackerProgress Tracker - Week 1Reflection on the work you have produced this weekProblems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved themProblemResolutionNotes on Resources and Sources used in the production of this week’s postChecklistSpellcheckedProofreadIntroductionConclusionHarvardPresentationPublishedLecturers Feedback, detailing further actions you need to take (student to complete)Progress Tracker - Week 2Reflection on the work you have produced this weekI feel as though my literature review has helped me to learn what feelings I need to convey to the player, as well as when it’s relevant. Not only this but it also helped me learn how to convey these feelings, this is through using different tones and instruments. The literature review also gave me a chance to look at other peoples work and see how they created an iconic tune that when heard will bring back memories of the game, or even just be recognisable and identifiable to that game.Problems/situations you encountered this week and how you resolved themProblemResolutionN/AN/ANotes on Resources and Sources used in the production of this week’s postYoutube (2009).
