2016 Beaufort Historical Association Calendar

Semi-Annual Membership Meeting January 26 6 pm

Held twice a year, this meeting honors all BHA volunteers and will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A potluck dinner will be followed by a short business meeting and the presentation of the Volunteer Awards.

 

Membership Drive Valentine Party               February 7             2 to 4 pm

In an effort to increase membership, the BHA opens the buildings of the Beaufort Historic Site for current and prospective members to explore, which allows them to see how the BHA uses membership dollars to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Beaufort and Carteret County.

Art Opening for Coleman Dance and Sally Barnes April 1              5 pm

Artists Coleman Dance and Sally Barnes will be featured at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site through the months of February and March.

Their work will be on display beginning Sunday, February 7 with a reception in her honor at 5:00 pm. Free Event

Volunteer Training                             March 10 9 am – 4 pm

Attendees are invited for an orientation for those interested in volunteering at the Beaufort Historic Site. Anyone interested in historic preservation and research, student educational programs, driving a double-decker bus, leading tours, retail sales in the gift shop or helping with the many committees that are the backbone of the Association are welcome to attend.  

Annual Easter Egg Hunt                                   March 26                11 am

Children ages seven and younger are welcome to join the fun. Prizes, refreshments and lots of eggs - it’s all free - just bring a basket!

Art Opening for Beth Roy                April 1                5 pm

Artist Beth Roy will be featured at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site through the months of April and May. Her work will be on display beginning Friday, April 1 with a reception in her honor at 5:00 pm. Free Event

Publick Day                                                        April 16              9 am to 4pm

An old-fashioned flea market on the Beaufort Historic Site with vendors selling antiques and collectibles, art, crafts, handmade jewelry, books, food and much more. No admission charge. Vendor information is available for this fun spring event.

 

Spinning Workshop                     May 2, 3 & 5 1 :30 pm – 4 pm

As part of the Beaufort Historical Association’s annual Living History Series, Pat Tester will host a spinning workshop at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center. The workshop has a materials fee of $15 and is limited to 6 participants. To learn more or to reserve your space call 252-728-5225.

Carteret County Arts & Crafts Coalition Spring Show                     May 28-29

Juried sale of arts and crafts of coastal artisans held three weekends a year. Held at the Beaufort Historic Site on Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, and at another venue for a three-week show between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this is the perfect occasion to browse and buy the work of coastal artists and craftsmen.

Knotless Knitting Workshop                    June 2 1 :30 pm – 4 pm

As part of the Beaufort Historical Association’s annual Living History Series, Mary Clement will host a knotless knitting workshop at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center. Art Opening for Bunny Matthews June 4 5 pm

Old Homes Tour artist, Bunny Matthews will be featured at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site through the months of June and July. Her work will be on display beginning Saturday, June 4 at the Old Homes Tour Kick-Off Party at 5 pm.

Pine Needle Basket Workshop             June 9 10 am – 3 pm

As part of the Beaufort Historical Association’s annual Living History Series, Sandi Malone will host a pine needle basket workshop at the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center. 56th Beaufort Old Homes and Gardens Tour            June 24-25          10 am to 5 pm

This 56th annual walking tour of private historic homes, gardens, churches and historic places is the last full weekend in June.  Private homes, Beaufort Historic Site buildings, the Old Burying Ground, narrated bus tours of the historic district, music concerts and an antique car show are all highlights of this signature event.

Antique Show & Sale                                   June 24-26          Times Vary

Held in conjunction with the Beaufort Old Homes and Gardens Tour in June at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City, this event features more than 40 booths of antiques and collectibles, as well as a gourmet Tea Room.

Decoy Carving Demonstration           June 24 10 am – 3 pm

Membership Meeting / Volunteer Picnic         September 20      5:30 pm

The Semi-Annual Membership Meeting will be held on the grounds of The Beaufort Historic Site. A picnic with all the trimmings to honor is featured for all those who volunteer for the Beaufort Historical Association and its many events and activities.  There will be a very brief business meeting, which includes the election of new Board of Governors members.  

Art Opening for Fen Rascoe                October 15     6 :30 pm

Fall Party artist, Fen Rascoe will be featured at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site through the months of October and November. His work will be on display beginning Saturday, October 15 at the BHA Fall Party. Admission fee.

Fall Fundraising Party                                       October 15             6:30 pm      

Gala fundraising party held in a beautiful Beaufort home featuring the works of a selected artist. Artwork is available for purchase. Admission charge.                                              

Jumble Sale                                                        November 19        9 am to 4 pm

The Beaufort Historic Site turns into a community market with art, handmade crafts, holiday gifts, pre-loved treasures, antiques, clothing, food and much more. No admission fee. Vendor information is available. 

Community Thanksgiving Feast                  November 20          11:30 to 1 pm

A traditional turkey dinner is provided by some of the area’s finest restaurants. Served at the Beaufort Historic Site, dinners are available for take-out or to enjoy under our tent. Admission fee

Beaufort Holiday Art Walk December 10 1 to 5 pm

Enjoy a festive day in Historic Downtown Beaufort, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and celebrate the season with art receptions and open houses at many downtown locations. A wide variety of art from regional artists will be showcased throughout many of the downtown shops, galleries and restaurants. The Art Walk will begin at The Beaufort Historic Site, 130 Turner St. Art Walk maps will be available at participating locations.

Art Opening for Craig Gurganus    December 10 1 pm

Artist Craig Gurganus will be featured at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site through the months of December and January. His work will be on display beginning Saturday, December 10 at the Beaufort Holiday Art Walk. Free event.

Historic Beaufort Candlelight Homes Tour      December 10      5 to 8 pm

Tour private homes in Beaufort and ride on the double-decker bus with carolers from local churches. Homeowners will open their doors so that the public can delight in their festive décor and decorations. Admission fee.
