FOLSOM MAKES MONEY’S “BEST PLACES TO LIVE” REPORT

Folsom finished as on of the best six cities to live in California – and No. 34 nationwide, according to Money magazine’s closely watched “Best Places to Live” report release on Monday, July 17, 2006.

The city of about 66,000 people, which boasts a historic downtown, a major high-tech employer with Intel and large lake, was the only Sacramento-area community that made the list, according to the magazine.

Fort Collins, Colorado, Naperville, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) and Sugar Land, Texas finished, as the top three communities nationwide, respectively.

Livermore, Rancho Cucamonga, San Diego, Santa Clarita and Simi Valley were also top-ranked California cities that made the annual list.

The nation’s top three big cities were Colorado Springs, Colorado, Austin, Texas, and Mesa, Arizona. San Diego was the only California city that made the top 10 big cities list ranked at No. 5.

Rocklin finished at No. 93 in 2005, but failed to make the list this year. Folsom was not on the list last year.

The magazine ranks cities on affordable housing; leisure activities; cultural options; job growth, crime rate, weather; commute time; and health care access.
