Paola Elorza is the meteorologist and environmental reporter for the number one station in Spanish, Univision in Miami Florida.

Every day she brings us the local forecast at 5 am sharp in the local morning newscast, Al Amanecer, and continues until 8 am, with national morning show Despierta America and Telefutura’s morning newscast.

She is very popular during Hurricane Season, but the whole year she keeps encouraging us to take care of the environment, through her weekly green segment “ Piensa Verde Actua Verde” ( think green, act green). And the educational segment “Club Planeta Vision”, where Miami Dade County’s Schools show their commitment to the environment and science.

She was the first environmental reporter among the Hispanic media in 2000, and since then she has worked very close with South Florida local government agencies and nonprofit organizations, helping them to reach the local Hispanic community through her TV segments and promotions, to create common environmental conscience.

She has also been recognized for her labor as reporter by government and private entities like Miami Dade County for collaborating with Adopt a Tree and most recently Million Trees Miami campaigns, and the Suncoast Emmy Award with 2 nominations.

BEFORE UNIVISION

She was born In Santiago, Chile, and got her meteorology degree from the Aeronautic Academy, working later as a forecaster in the National Weather Service of Chile for 5 years and as weathercaster in Mega, a local TV station. Just before moving to the United States, she was promoted to PPRR manager position at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport where she had the chance to work very closely with national and international journalists and media.

A year later she accepted a work offer from The Weather Channel Espanol, and she moved to Atlanta Georgia, where she worked as a camera meteorologist for the next 3 years, before accepting the meteorologist and environmental reporter position in Univision. Once living and working in Miami, she continued her education to improve her computer and reporting skills, by attending many company seminars and post-graduate courses, like Investigative Science Journalism Boot Camp at MIT.

She is a member of SEJ and AMS since 2000.
