Complex Sentences
A complex sentence has:
1) A dependent clause
2) An independent clause
(When the dependent clause comes first, a comma must be placed between the dep. and ind. clauses
(When the independent clause comes first, there is NO COMMA placed before the dependent clause.
Examples:
Because I was late for school, I got detention.
I got detention because I was late for school.
Although I was sick yesterday, I had a good time.
I had a good time although I was sick yesterday.
( When the dependent clause comes in the middle of the independent clause, 2 COMMAS must be placed before and after the dependent clause.
Examples:
Andrea, who plays basketball, won a trophy.
Spaghetti, which I love to eat, is being served for dinner.
