BILL OF RIGHTS PROJECT

BILL OF RIGHTS PROJECT

You will be researching amendments 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 in depth. There are several parts to this project that each class member will be required to complete for full credit. Each student is required to take notes during the presentation for the assessments over each amendment. There is a test over the presentations and the corresponding amendments.

Part 1: Paper

-You will write a scholarly paper summarizing the main points of your amendment. The paper will be between 2-4 pages long (this does not include the cover page and bibliography) and should demonstrate understanding of the amendment you have been assigned.

-Paper criteria:

After summarizing your amendment, there are three general questions that need to be answered or discussed in the paper:

1. What rights does this amendment protect today? What was it originally supposed to accomplish?

2. Please explain the most important court cases that involve this amendment after it was ratified. How did each expand/enlarge the amendment or restrict the amendment?

3. What was the impact of this amendment on the people of the US then? On our lives today? How might this amendment affect YOU personally?

*Other criteria for the paper: 12 point Times font, double-spaced, one-inch margins, original in thought and language (no plagiarizing)

Part 2: Presentation:

-Your presentation will be designed for an appropriate class level

-Be creative, make it interesting and engaging. Try to get your audience involved.

-Presentations could include Prezi, iMovie, PowerPoint, Exhibits, Skits, Games, Songs, Etc.

-Prior to presenting you need to provide a “lesson plan” for your presentation: in other words, what are you doing for your lesson?

-Any appropriate video clips (no more than 10 minutes of video in total) are acceptable, as long as they have been previously approved

-Time requirement: minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 50 minutes for your presentation, so plan accordingly!

-You must find a minimum of THREE Supreme Court cases that deal with your amendment. Talk about the facts, question presented to the court, and the decision of the court. Did the ruling expand or restrict rights?

Use to help you complete this requirement!

-Your group needs to create a 10-question MULTIPLE CHOICE quiz over your amendment. This quiz needs to be legitimate and challenging. The quiz along with an answer key is due the day you present. The quiz MUST be typed.

Part 3: Other Information

How much time will you get to work?

-You will have FOUR days in a computer lab to work. You will have ONE additional day to complete this assignment in class.

1. Tuesday, March 15th=Media Center

2. Wednesday, March 16th=Media Center

3. Friday, March 18th=Media Center

4. Monday, March 21st=iPad Cart

***DUE DATE=TUESDAY, MARCH 22nd***

NO EXCEPTIONS! If a person in your group is gone often, that is why you are in GROUPS: to overcome any obstacles that might be in the way of your success.

Etc.

-You should use Power Point to present information (using Google Docs may be helpful)

-You may use note cards during your presentation

-PLEASE do more than read off of the screen! I need to know that you really KNOW your amendment!

-You may NOT read your paper during your presentation, but you may refer to it when answering questions.
