November Plenary Meeting Minutes

November 12-17, Dallas, Tx

AM1, Tuesday

8:05 TG5 chair, Myung Lee, called the meeting to order.

The chair discussed the agenda of this meeting. The agenda was passed by unanimous consensus.

The group passed the minute of Australia meeting by unanimous consensus.

The chair mentioned there were three additional contributions submitted; two of them submitted in time, one of them submitted after the deadline. The chair asked whether this group will consider the late submission as valid proposal.

Chunhui Zhu moved to accept the late submission for further consideration, Phil Beecher seconded.

The group cast a vote (members only) and the motion was approved (Yes:5; No:1; Abstained:1).

The chair called the representatives of the three new proposals to discuss the order of presentations.

Order: according to the document number.

First presentation: 06/0437

Second presentation: 06/0442

Third presentation: 06/0479

Ho-In Jeon presented “Efficient Real-Time Short Address Allocations for Wireless Mesh Sensor Network Devices Using NAA (Next Address Available)”. Document # 06/0437 (Presentation file was not on the server, Word document was not available).

Seung Hyong Rhee presented “Distributed Channel Time Allocation for WPAN Mesh Networks”. Document # 06/0442r01 (Word document: 06/0443r00)

The group recessed at 10:03AM

AM2, Tuesday

10:38 AM, the group resumed discussion on Rhee’s presentation.

11:00 AM, Sungrae Cho presented “Timer-based Reliable Broadcast for WPAN Mesh Networks”. Document # 06/0480 (Word document: 06/0479r00).

11:53 AM, The chair reviewed the down-selection procedure (06/0349), especially the items related to the low hurdle selection.

Discussion on the down-selection procedure continued. Phil Beecher suggested postponing the vote to Thursday.

12:15 PM. The group recessed.

PM1, Tuesday

1:35PM, the chair called the meeting to order.

The time of the low hurdle selection was discussed.

Chunhui Zhu moved to postpone the vote to Thursday AM1 considering the suggestion in the morning. Sebastian Max seconded. Discussions followed. A vote was cast on the motion and it was passed at 60% (Yes: 3; No: 2; Abstain: 2).

1:54PM, Ho-In Jeon gave a short summary (15 min) on his proposal (06/0437) since he would not be on Thursday’s down-selection.

Chunhui Zhu suggested we also give the other two proposers 15 minutes each on Thursday before the low hurdle vote for fairness. The suggestion was accepted by the chair.

Ho-In asked for the project plan for London meeting. The chair explained the situation.

Ho-In asked whether we should adopt 4b. Discussion followed. The group agreed 4b should be the base for the LR part.

2:36PM The group recessed until AM1, Thursday.

AM1, Thursday

8:06AM, 15 WG vice Chair, Richard Alfvin, announced the TG Chair Myung Lee will not be able to host the meeting. He appointed Sebastian Max and Chunhui Zhu to be the acting chairs for the rest of the meeting of the week.

8:08AM, Meeting called to order.

Sebastian reviewed the agenda. The first item is to summarize the additional contributions and to cast the low hurdle vote according to the downselection procedure.

Seung Hyong Rhee reviewed his proposal “Distributed Channel Time Allocation for WPAN Mesh Networks”. Document # 06/0442r01

Sungrae Cho reviewed “Timer-based Reliable Broadcast for WPAN Mesh Networks”. Document # 06/0480.

Sebastian reviewed the downselection procedure 06/349r00.

8:45AM, the paper ballot was cast. The result:

Discussion continued on how to move forward. A straw poll was cast for whether to change the downselection procedure (06/349r00). All attendees are in favor of changing the downselection procedure so that each additional proposal can be voted individually without merging with others (straw poll result: in favor of the change: 12; against the change: 0).

The group will have teleconference calls between now and London meeting to discuss the modification of the downselection procedure and the technical contents of the new proposals.

Michael Sim moved to shift the discussion of the project plan to AM1 session. Taerim Park seconded. The motion was passed by unanimous consensus.

Sebastian will figure out the access number of the teleconferences.

Discussion on the time of the first teleconference followed. People agreed to have the first telecom on Dec. 13th. It would be announced on the closing plenary.

Chunhui Zhu suggested some volunteers to come up with the draft of the modification to the current downselection procedure so that there will be a base for discussion on the teleconference. Sebastian proposed that proposers of the new contributions to draft the new downselection document for discussion in the teleconference.

Michael Sim moved to adjourn until London meeting. Taerim Park seconded. The motion was passed by unanimous consensus.

9:30AM. The meeting adjourned.
