SULZER ENGINES

The engines are designed to be operated with LFO and HFO and have been operated so far with this latest fuel. They do not need any modification: just the fuel auxiliaries for HFO operation (which are included) are different and fuel lines have to be traced to ensure proper viscosity of HFO to flow through the fuel system.

The sulphur content is not a problem as these engines are originally equipped with chromed piston crown and ™three sides chromed top compression ring so that to avoid chemical corrosion in the piston grove and liners. The engines are also designed with rotating pistons so that to ensure regular wear on the liners and avoid as long as possible the drop of the compression rate.

The Sulzer ZA40S is one of the most reliable, suitable and successful engines for HFO operations. Just consider that after Sulzer Diesel was taken over by Wartsila traditional customers have to a certain extent obliged the new owner to continue the production of this model much longer than planned by refusing to shift to more modern equipment.

With reference to your evaluated request, we are pleased to submit to your attention our offer for the supply of 21 used diesel gensets with a total nominal power output of 240 MW.

The fuel consumption of the engines is between 186 gxkWh fuel (new conditions) and 210 gxkWh (used conditions) that corresponds to an efficiency between 45.33 and 40.15% (considering a fuel with 42.7 MJ/kg LHV)

The above efficiency is calculated at generator terminals and does not take into account the auxiliaries consumption e above efficiency is calculated at generator terminals and does not take into account the auxiliaries consumption

The total power output of 23 units is 265,880 kW (at ISO conditions) i.e. 11,560 kW per engine

For the availability of the engines you can take into account 10 days per year for the inspection and substitution of consumables (i.e. piston rings, valves and valve seats, fuel system parts) for the first five years and 42 days for the major overhaul scheduled after six years operations. Under these assumptions the availability can be calculated to be 95% considering full load operations of the engines for 8,760 hrs per year.

The total efficiency of the plant is the sum of the total efficiency of the engines
