15. Marriage License The State of Wisconsin recognizes weddings performed by judges and ordained clergy. A proper Wisconsin license must be provided to the Officiant for a legal marriage. The pastor would like this no later than the day of the rehearsal.

It is my practice to sign the wedding license as part of the ceremony, generally after the unity candle. This is an English tradition of the church.

16. Pew candles – Our Redeemer has special pew candles that attach to the pews for your use. Do you wish to use these? Yes No

17. Explanation of the church physical layout.

18. Our Redeemer provides a “camera ready” copy for a wedding bulletin. If you want bulletins for your guests, it is the couple’s responsibility to have them printed. As a guide you will need to print enough so that each guest has copy.

19. Fainting and fluids- When a member of the wedding party faints at a wedding, this presents a major disruption. Fainting is generally caused by a lack of fluids. When people are nervous they forget to drink liquid. Have bottled water or soda available for your wedding party, if not a light snack. Not only is it hospitable, and healthy, it can prevent a major disruption.

20. Next meeting with the pastor or wedding planner. Date_____________ Time___________

Fees and related expenses

To have a wedding date reserved on the church calendar, all of the following must apply:

The couple agrees to follow the tradition and practice of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The pastor must agree to perform the wedding.

The date along with a time must be arranged. A date without a time does not reserve the church.

A $25 non-refundable fee must be paid to secure the reservation. This entitles you to the wedding date and time, the use of candles, pew candles, and other items needed to serve you.

Those who serve at Our Redeemer and assist in your wedding do so from their hearts, in service to God and you. They give of their time, often over and above what is expected of them. The congregation honors them and to assure they are properly cared for, Our Redeemer has established the following guidelines.

The following fees and honorarium apply to weddings performed after 1/1/07

Pastor $150

Organist $125

Janitor $100

Soloist $ 75 (If provided by the congregation.)

Because the week of your wedding is hectic and stressful, it is best to take care of these costs early on. At the latest the fees are due prior to the rehearsal, and are payable to the individuals and not the church. Please give these to the pastor prior to the rehearsal. He will take care of distribution of these to the proper people. Every couple should note, the organist will not turn on the organ or play the piano at your service until the fee has been paid.

Premarital preparation (actual cost, payable at the time of giving the service.)

Printing of Bulletins- Our Redeemer will print your bulletins for you for a nominal fee.

There is a set up charge of $7.50 and a per-copy fee of $0.05 (if you provide bulletin stock). If we supply the paper, then the per-copy fee is $0.07, for example if you provide bulletin stock, the charge for 100 bulletins would be $12.50, and 200 would be $17.50. The bulletin stock is sold at Christian bookstores and other outlets. Because paper quality varies, if the bulletin is to be printed on paper, we prefer to use our own paper supply.

Wedding Music

If you are like most couples, church wedding music is unfamiliar to you. When most people attend a wedding, remembering the music, title, composer, and publisher, is not a priority. This section of the wedding manual is designed to introduce you to rich possibilities in church wedding music. What we have included here is approved, workable, and Christ-centered selections.

Our Redeemer performs music live. We don’t permit recorded music for several good reasons. The room is large and to have recorded music sound “good,” most equipment is inadequate for the task. Also, we are obligated to obtain permission to play copyrighted music and most recorded music in a public gathering. When the music is purchased the owner is obligated to abide by these same laws. While many don’t regard it as a serious violation of the law, it is, and there are penalties. In fact, a wedding at Our Redeemer has been paid visit by the “copyright police.” Good for us, we were in compliance. We just don’t violate the Law.

Experience has proven that contemporary songs, often in vogue, heard over the air-waves are not suitable for a wedding service. First, often hard copy music is difficult to obtain. Secondly, an audience, in this case a congregation, expects a topnotch vocalist to perform it under ideal conditions. Generally, these are poor performances, and distract rather than enhance the wedding service. Also, very often the songs speak more of human love, rather than God’s love and concept of marriage. Experience has proven that couples are better served with other music. If a contemporary, largely secular song is special to you, we suggest that you give it prominent attention at your wedding reception. Your DJ or musicians would be happy to accommodate your request.

The following is a solid collection of wedding music. They are time-tested, approved for their theology, appropriate for weddings and worship services of God’s people. We will consider other musical selections. Both the pastor and the musicians will review it. Please give us ample time for the review, so we can best serve you.

Pre-service Music

These are instrumental pieces played while the guests are seated. Unless you have strong preferences, our organists will play fitting pieces of quality selections.

Processional Music

This is an instrumental selection used while the bridal party processes or walks into the church. Of all the music, this is a key selection; it sets the tone for the wedding. We discourage vocal numbers as processional music.

“Canon in D”

“Psalm XIX”

Hymns for Weddings

A hymn, early in the service, shortly after the processional and prior to the Scripture readings, is encouraged. It gives every worshiper an opportunity to unite their voices in a hymn of praise. The entire hymnal could be a potential source of a hymn; we have included some that are very good for wedding services.

“Bless, This House What E’er Be Tide”

“Crown Him With Many Crowns”

“Holy, Holy, Holy”

“Praise to the Lord the Almighty”

“O Perfect Love”

“When Love is Found”

“With the Lord Begin Your Task”

Sending Songs

(Inserted after the Lord’s Prayer and prior to Benediction.)

“Go My Children with My Blessing”

Vocal Music

Unity Candle Selections

Postludes

“Psalm XIX”
