AR is where we are and will stay if the state seems retiree friendly in a few years. Right now the government is decidedly against us. We need social nets here. We need retirement benefits.

We will be retiring to either RI or Mass to be near our son and his family. Since he is our only child and there is now a grandchild on the way, being close to family takes top priority! We live in NH now, but it takes 90 minutes each way to visit, so it will be nicer to spend less time on the road and more time with the "kids."

Hawaii- we resided here for 40 years before retirement. Things that keep us here: The climate. Also, Hawaii does not tax federal or state pensions, and Social Security payments are tax free. We like our HMO: Kaiser Health Plan (which is not available in many other States). Things we don't like and might cause us to move in the future: Extremely high cost of living, unaffordability of housing, having to fly (expensively) to wherever we want to travel, and being too far away from our daughter (who grew up here, moved to the Mainland, and- along with most of her generation- can't afford to move back here.)
