Format:

• Part A: Multiple Choice (K)- 15 questions

o Questions will be pulled from all units throughout the course

• Part B: Timeline (K/A)- 10 marks

o Chose ten (10) events from the table and place them in proper chronological order on the timeline. (1 mark/event) **From this list of 25, only 15 will on the exam**

o From the table in Part B, choose five (5) events. For each give a description of the event and state reasons why it is considered important to our history. (5x3 marks each)

• Part C: Short Answer (A, C)- 20 marks

o You will be given 3 questions, you only have to respond to two. You should draw on your knowledge from the entire course to formulate your answers. (2 x10= 20 marks)

• Part D: Response (A)- 10 marks

o An image will appear on the exam and you will need to draw on your knowledge from the course in order to apply it to the image and answer the question.

• Part E: Essay Question (C, A, K, T)- 30 marks

o Write your response to one of the following questions in the space provided. Use proper essay form and be conscious of the mechanics of your writing. Marks will be granted for all categories of learning. Choose one of the following questions to prepare for your final exam:

▪ 1. Explain how World War II could be described as a “European civil war with global consequences.”

▪ 2. Analyze the lasting impact of individuals in the 20th Century in shaping world events and the current structure of the international community. Compare and Contrast the roles of three of the following: Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Gandhi, Mao Tse-Tung and one Canadian Prime Minister, and one American President.

Study Tips:

• Multiple Choice

o Read the question/statement carefully

o Circle/highlight key words

o Read all the answers before selecting one

o If you don’t know the answer, eliminate ones you know are wrong

o Use study cards for key terms (events, dates, people, ideas, terminology)

o Study multiple choice units from all unit tests

o Take terms and make up your own multiple choice questions

• Identify and State the Significance:

o Read all questions before choosing the one you plan to answer

o Plan content for the answer (key terms, specifics, details)

o Write clearly and concisely

o Key Terms- use many and explain them

o Use practice questions to prepare

• Essay:

o Formal essay format

o 5 paragraphs

o Thesis, topic sentences, concluding sentences

o Clearly written

o Specific, accurate, explained historical details supporting general points

o Plan your answer before writing it

o Organization is important

o Prepare your ideas before hand

General Tips:

- Create a study schedule- plan many, short sessions- plan to cover all topics

- Start studying as early as possible

- Study when alert, energized, fed

- Minimize distractions when studying

- Use study cards/sheets- track what you know/what you don’t know

- Plan (write) answers to practice questions (writing is more active than reading)
