General Chinese 2

Part 1 Teaching Content

General Chinese 2 is designed for MBBS students who have basic phonetic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and master the usage of about 150 basic Chinese words after learning Chinese for 120 hours, which is scheduled in the second semester with 6 hours per week. Listening and speaking trainings, based on the preliminary learning of basic words and grammars, are emphasized in General Chinese 2.

In this course, students will learn usage of about 200 basic Chinese words and writing of corresponding Chinese characters; and usage of about 20 basic Chinese grammar points. Trainings of Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are included in this course as well. Listening training focuses on simple dialogues; speaking training focuses on short conversations; reading training focuses on simple dialogues and short passages with about 100 characters; writing training focuses on constructing simple sentences and short passages with about 100 characters.

Part 2 Teaching Object

General Chinese 2 reaches the requirements of elementary level 1 of Syllabus for Chinese language of International Students of Higher Education (Long term) published by Hanban:

Listening: can accurately distinguish the initials, finals and tones of Mandarin Chinese; can understand simple sentences and conversations with relatively slow speed; can understand the basic conversations in daily life, e.g.: daily arrangements, asking for help and etc..

Speaking: can correctly construct simple sentences; can express simple opinions or requirements and retell an event with understandable sentences; the percentage of incorrect sentences is less than 40%.

Reading: can read out characters accurately without Pinyin; can recognize characters with the knowledge of radicals and structures of characters; can guess the meaning of characters; can understand 100-character-passgae with a dictionary.

Writing: can dictate words, sentences that have learned in characters; can write characters with clear strokes in correct stroke order; can connect simple sentences into a short passage.

Students will master about 350 basic words, 40 basic grammar points and have the basic Chinese communication skills in their daily life after learning General Chinese 2.
