The IB’s student-centered philosophy, with its focus on inquiry, action and reflection, empowers students for a lifetime of learning, both independently and in collaboration with others. An IB education centers on learners, develops effective approaches to teaching and learning, and explores significant content within global contexts.Course OverviewThe ability to communicate in a variety of modes in more than one language is essential to the concept of an international education that promotes multilingualism and intercultural understanding, both of which are central to the IB’s mission. The study of additional languages in the MYP provides students with the opportunity to develop insights into the features, processes and craft of language and the concept of culture, and to realize that there are diverse ways of living, behaving and viewing the world.The objectives of MYP language acquisition encompass the factual, conceptual, procedural and metacognitive dimensions of knowledge. We will utlize subject specific criterion rubrics when assessing. These rubrics will be shared with all students in advance of assessments. *Benchmark assessments will utilize the county-modified AP rubrics for speaking and writing in an effort to prepare our students for higher level coursework. At any time, parents may check parentconnect. to see their student’s grade. Please contact the guidance office if you do not already have a login. Late Work/Redo’s: Please endeavor to turn all work in when due. If you have a reason that the work must be late please meet with me. Students will be docked 10% each day an assignment is late. After five days, homework assignments will no longer be accepted. All other missing work will be designated with a .01 in the gradebook for 2 weeks. If, after the two-week period, the assignment is not submitted, the .01 will change to a zero and the student will not be permitted to turn in the assignment for late credit.Redo’s: Students shall have ONE additional chance to improve their score on a major test or assessment (as designated by the teacher). In order for this to happen the student MUST have submitted the original assignment ON TIME and set up a time with the teacher for re-teaching within 5 days of getting the graded assignment back. After the re-teaching, the student will have 10 days to resubmit the assignment. The higher grade will be the grade of record. All student re-teaching will take place after school Tuesdays during HELP Day. Please endeavor to schedule this meeting in advance so that we both are prepared. The student must submit a request to retest form and have it approved by the teacher before redoing an assignment.Attendance/Tardiness: IF YOU ARE ABSENT, PLEASE go to the class website via under the “classes” tab. Students and parents should sign up for the class by creating an account. You will receive a confirmation code which must be emailed to the teacher in order to confirm your account. The website will automatically send reminders directly to your email account regarding all due dates. All homework assignments, handouts, and key information will be posted daily, as well as helpful links to websites and other resources. It is expected that students will utilize the website. Please make prior arrangements, if possible, to collect work from the instructor for days that are to be missed. Before asking the teacher, please check the “Make-up” folder for your course in order to obtain hard copies of assignments missed. When the cell phone sign is on “green”, students should be using their technology for class as directed by teacher. When the sign is red, it is expected that all students turn off and put away their cell phones and other devices. Should any device pose a problem, the student will be asked to turn it over to the teacher until the end of class.
