Specific topics include: triangle trigonometry, trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities and equations, applications of trigonometry, analytic geometry, and exponential and logarithmic functions. Major Units: Chapter 0: Prelim ReviewChapter 4: Complex NumbersChapter 1: TrigonometryChapter 5: Exponential & Logarithmic FChapter 2: Analytic Trigonometry FunctionsChapter 3: Additional Topics in TrigChapter 6: Topics in Analytic GeometryLearning Objectives: Upon completion of course, students will be able to: Apply right triangle trig ratios, law of sines and law of cosines to real world situationsProve trigonometric identities and apply them to the problem solving processUtilize trigonometry to solve problems in the complex planeForm connections between trigonometry and analytic geometrySolve exponential and logarithmic equations and apply those techniques to multi-step application problemsModel periodic trigonometric functions, their inverses and utilize translation theorems. Extend the domain of trigonometric functions using the unit circleExplain how the unit circle in the coordinate plane enables the extension of trigonometric functions to all real numbers, interpreted as radian measures of angles traversed counterclockwise around the unit circle.Class Preparedness/Supplies: Students must come to class prepared to learn. Graphing calculators are required for daily use (no cell phone calculators will be allowed). Recommended: TI 83 or TI 84In addition, notebook paper and pencils are required to complete assignments.Three-ring binder for organizational use of notes, assignments, quizzes/testsGrading Policy: Grades will be assigned as follows:Grading Cutoffs: Grading Breakdown:A:[100, 90]Tests 40%B:(90, 80]Quizzes/Projects20%C:(80, 70]Final Exam 20%D:(70, 60]Homework20%Tests and Quizzes: Students will be given regular quizzes to test understanding of content along the way. At the end of each semester, the single lowest quiz grade will be dropped. A test will be given at the end of each unit of study. Tests will be supplemented with study materials and reviews that directly address content being assessed. Homework: Homework is assigned on a daily basis and will be collected randomly. In order to be successful, it is critical to practice new ideas and concepts. Homework is graded on a scale of 1 to 10 and will be graded on completion, effort, and the demonstration of techniques rather than correctness. If an excused absence occurs, students have one day per missed class to turn in assignments. Policies: Act with kindness Be respectful to each other and to me and to the things in the room, this means putting your phone away during notes and not writing on desks.Work together This course is highlighted with collaboration--class discussion, group work, and pair-sharing. There is a lot to be learned from your peers and having the opportunity to articulate, challenge, and defend ideas will strengthen every individuals mathematical understanding. We are all in this together so let’s work together. No cheatingCheating is not tolerated. If you are caught cheating, you will be given a zero and disciplinary actions will follow. Electronic DevicesCell phones, IPods, and other electronic devices will NOT be tolerated during class time. Cell phone calculators are not allowed on any assignment or test. Website:If you are absent, please check my website to see what you missed. My website includes a tentative unit schedule and lists all homework assignments. Additional Support: Further academic support is offered through the academic center located in the ERC room (above the counseling office)—no appointment necessary. Hours: Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:00pm.If at any point you wish to get a private tutor, your guidance counselor can provide you with a district approved list.Let’s get ready for a Mathemagical year!! ................
