NOTEBOOK:

I suggest that you keep your notebook organized with the following sections: Syllabus (placed before your first tab), 1-Warm Ups, 2-Vocabulary, 3-Literature, 4-Grammar and Writing, and 5-Assignments.

***You will put most, if not all, of your notes in your composition book.

MAKE-UP WORK:

When you are absent, you are responsible for acquiring your missed work. You should always speak with a classmate FIRST to find out what you have missed and then go to the designated places in the classroom to get your work. You have 3 school days to make up work for an excused absence only, and I adhere to this policy. Unless you have made previous arrangements with me, any assigned work given before an absence is due on the same day you return to school.

LATE WORK:

All work should be turned in on time; however, in the event I allow you to turn in work late, I will deduct 10-20 points from your grade for each day your work is late. If you are here on a date where something is due, you must turn it in before you leave even if you leave before your class. Failure to do so will result in the assignment receiving a late grade

GRADING PROCEDURES:

Course with no EOC

1st 9 weeks

2nd 9 weeks = 75% of final average

3rd 9 weeks

4th 9 weeks

Final Exam = 25% of final average

Note: For year long courses, the first semester posttest (midterm) will count as a test grade in the 2nd 9 weeks.

COURSE GRADING POLICY FOR BREAKDOWN OF CLASS WORK:

Tests/Major Assignments: 50%

Daily Assignments: 20%

Quizzes: 30%

EXAM EXEMPTIONS: All students will be required to take the EOC for courses in which it applies. Students may exempt the semester midterm/final exam for a course in the following way:

• A student must have an average of 70 or above

• Miss no more than 2 days per semester

• EOCT Course – Must pass the EOC in that area to exempt the final

CLASSROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES:

Follow all of the rules and procedures in the PCHS student handbook as I do enforce them. You must be prepared for class with all of your materials each and every day. By the time the tardy bell rings, you are to be seated, have all class materials ready, and be working on your warm up.

You must show respect to your fellow classmates and instructor at all times. Having a positive attitude and working hard are expected at all times.

Food and drink, other than bottled water, are NOT allowed in my classroom.

In order to learn, you must be here. While I support athletics and other extracurricular pursuits, I still expect you to fulfill your obligations as a student in this course, and I expect you to do so in a timely manner (see late work).

Keep in mind, if you leave school before you come to class and you have an assignment due that day, you must turn it in before you leave. Otherwise, your assignment will be late.

As for any work you turn in, I expect quality work in terms of style, correctness, and presentation, so always present your best work. As your teacher, I promise I will not accept anything less than your best.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Academic honesty means turning in your own work with you demonstrating what you know. On the other hand, academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, the following: plagiarizing, cheating, copying someone else’s work, or allowing someone else to copy your work. Any student who commits academic dishonesty will receive a ZERO (0) for the grade with no redo opportunity, and the student could receive a discipline referral.
