Unit Outline for Slam Poetry

Essential Questions: How do I identify and analyze elements of poetry (sound devices, figurative language, diction, and imagery), and how do I find examples of these devices in the text? What is slam poetry and how can it be used to convey universal themes and ideas of the modern world? How do I incorporate performance and poetry to create a slam poem or spoken word? When listening to other slam poets, how do I analyze for rhetorical devices, evaluate the speakers important points, and analyze use of argument?
