If this assignment is not completed by the first day of school, you will receive a Learning Target of a zero! You must bring a copy of the book to school for the first few weeks, since ELA will be starting with this book.Impact Cards – What makes an impact on you as you read? On the front of the card, you are to copy a passage (more than one sentence) from the book you are reading and the page number on which it is found. Impact cards can be: used to have “solitary” discussions with a text; a springboard for class discussion; textual evidence for essays.right14653600On the back of the card, you should write down why you chose that quote to record and what it’s about.What can you put on your impact cards? Passages that “seem” significant or interesting in any wayPlaces where you are stumped, confused, lost.Examples of language that is beautiful, pleasurable, striking.A-Ha moment where the text clicks in your mind.Points of deep engagement, a personal or inter-textual connection.Things that make you angry.Descriptions of characters or setting.Intense moments.The Importance of impact cards:Teaches you to be a closer, more conscious, more aware reader – your literary antennae are always up!!
