Bible Basics Greater is He that is in Me Part 1

A] I John 4:1-6; Read all; The word for the month.

1] Verse 4; Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.

a] Have you ever heard a verse so often it becomes just a “catch” phrase? Like a John 3:16; you hear that verse a lot as well. Both these verses are so profound one dare not take them lightly and there-by circumvent the great truths they portray.

2] I want to pick up on verse 4, about the Greater One being in you/me/us.

a] I Thes. 5:23; Apostle Paul declares that there is in every one of us, a spirit, soul, and a body, (I believe in that order of importance).

1] One could ponder in light of our verse; Is there room inside this/or our vessel, body, tabernacle to place, inhabit or dwell, some foreign something/entity as well?

a] Arbitrarily we would say yes, because God declares it, but because it seems so unreal we fail to really grasp this unique truth.

2] For some who have lived a horrendous past, where the devil and his bunch run roughshod over you, (maybe even in and through you), they would say emphatically, yes, it is possible to have something other than U.

3] For some other folks this may be hard to wrap your head around. Question; is it possible for something or as John says someone in this case the Lord and/or the Holy Spirit to inhabit someone? Based on Word, yes. We will look at the something first before we look at the Someone.

3] Math 17:14,15; The lunatic boy

a] Verse 15, he often falls in the fire, and in the water according to dad.

b] How many know this is not normal behavior for anyone. What was it that would cause this boy to do something irrational like that?

c] Verse 18; And Jesus rebuked the devil (demon) and he “departed out of him”.

1] There’s the answer, some type of demonic “entity” of seemingly unknown molecular structure (as far as we know) somehow was able to enter into this lad and for all practical purposes try to destroy (kill) the boy which follows the mission statement of the devil in John 10:10a.

a] Whatever the creature is, it had the ability to control the boys mental and physical abilities, most likely spirit as well.

b] This is a very scary area, beware, folks think it’s cool to dabble in the occult, drugs, board games etc.

2] Four (4) observations among many, 1- his dad could do the boy no good personally. 2- the boy could do himself no good, he was victim of something beyond him. 3- some in the Church could do the boy no good either. 4- the demonic spirit was subject to a/The higher power Jesus.

4] Mark 5:1-7; The Gadarean demonic (Brief only)

a] Verse 4-7; A few observations of the many, He lived in the graveyard, he was supernaturally strong, and he was injurious to himself and others.

1] Once again the presence of demonic activity

2] And once again the same thing happens, the Lord casts these demons out. But in this case there were 2000 demons cast out, per V-13

3] Conclusion, just how many demonic spirits can one be possessed with? How were so many able to abide in same host? Good question, consider, these spirits bring some bad baggage, murder, suicide, mental mania, etc. in other words it holds you hostage to it’s will.

4] One would do well to keep these galactic invaders out of their person, but how, glad you asked.

5] Luke 11:14-26; The Strongman Sermon (Brief only).

a] Verse 19, 20; Jesus was accused of casting out demons by being the head demon, what blasphemy.

1] I want to zero in on the Strongman part mostly.

b] Verse 22; but when a stronger than he shall come upon him.

1] We have already answered the question of, is it possible for something other than you, to be in you, if you are not saved.

2] But Jesus declares that even though a demonic spirit is stronger than some poor worldly soul, it is not stronger than Him, Amen.

3] And when we make Him, Christ, The Strongman, Lord of our lives, the devil not only has to go, but he can’t come back in. Unless.

c] Verse 24 says these spirits go into dry places, (thin air, abyss, who knows) a temporary place until they find a new host. In the case of the Gaderean a herd of hogs, of which run in the lake and drowned, spirits were looking for a host again.

1] But there is real danger here in this. Folks that had demonic possession that were delivered, in other words their house was swept and garnished.

a] They never filled their house with the Lord as in get saved. The devil would take note of this, and 7 more spirits worse than the first would come back in, now you have 8.

1] A note for folks that minister to just such a person, tell them in no uncertain terms, you need to get saved now, or look out.

b] I read an article from Cahn on this, he said, if someone ever turns away from evil and then returns back to it, that person will end up worse than he was before. May be someone reading this can attest to that.

1] I’ve seen this personally, far worse than before.

c] Cahn said the principle applies to even more than that. He said a Pre-Christian civilization is far less dangerous than a Post-Christian one. He said a pre-Christian Civilization may produce a Nero (evil Roman Emperor), Post- Christian civilization produces a Hitler or Stalin.

1] Once you come to the truth, never turn away, not even a little.

2] Even after you leave a place where you were delivered (cleaned), never turn back to the world, now you know!

6] Last, I John 4:4: The Greater One abides within is a fact, It’s when one gets truly saved and has a redemptive covenant with the Lord,

a] II Cor. 5:17, says you are now a new creature in Christ, old things are past away, behold all things are new.

1] New creatures get new things, new spiritual bodies, new walk, new everything. Are there any benefits? Consider;

2] By absorbing His Word (The Word of God) you are now not only in-dwelt by Him, but also His very Word will abide in you and through you as well.

a] And as a result of this great work of His Grace, you begin to think like the Lord thinks, Romans 12:1,2 (The Word transforming your mind)

b] Speak as the Lord spoke, in a given situation, you will be prompted by the Holy Spirit to use His Word, It’s called the Rhema Word Ephesians 6:17. The sword of the Spirit is the Word

c] React as the Lord would have reacted in a given situation, storms, what storms? Peace, be still, and it obeys, this is where we should be heading, I’m tired of the devil making me a doormat. Luke 9:1.

d] And Empowered as the Lord was Empowered, maybe not quite at the same level. Jesus I know, Paul I know, Acts 19 and Acts 1:8

e] And just as the Lord was master of His circumstances, you too will master things that once mastered you.

f] Why? Because the Greatest One abides within.

Now you know why you can do all things through Christ that strengthens You/Me/US! Philippians 4:13. Shalom
