SECTION SF 30 BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE

1. THE FOLLOWING ANSWERS TO REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION QUESTIONS ARE HEREBY PROVIDED TO CLARIFY, UPDATE, REVISE, OR CORRECT CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR DRAWINGS.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS No. 1

Qs1:

Solicitation has a required performance time of 150 calendar days for completion. Has any consideration been allowed for the submittal process and manufacturing

time of the windows, which may be anywhere from 12-18 weeks (84 to 126 calendar days)? That does not leave much time for the installation.

2. What is the extent of the infectious controls required for this project? Does it vary for each room?

3. In the meeting it was stated that some window replacements would have to be accomplished from the exterior. Can the VA identify these window areas?

4. The working hours were identified as between 3pm and midnight. Can the allotted work hours be adjusted? Also, can we work longer than 8 hours, to be reflected

in the bids and not as a modification.

5. Is there outside space available for 2-3 trailers for storage of windows?

6. Are all window areas assumed to have lead paint?

7. Being realistic, due to the time-lines listed above, this project could extend into the winter of 2015-2016, is there a possibility of the project being shut

down for next winter. Even working from the inside, working conditions could be intolerable. (Snow, wind, freezing temps, possibility of damage to rooms and /or

additional winter protections)

As1:

1. Contract performance time is changed via this amendment from 150 calendar days to 234 calendar days.

2. All of the rooms will require 6mil plastic barrier from floor to ceiling. Rooms to be cleaned upon completion of that day’s work (100% dust free) and usable for their intended purpose the next day.

3. Not with absolute certainty however the estimate is that 75% can be done from the inside and 25% will require to be accomplished from the outside. The bidder is responsible to satisfy themselves as to the general conditions of the work prior to bidding.

4. No change to the working hours is contemplated at this time.

5. Storage space is available onsite however it won’t accommodate 2-3 semi-trailers. A Construction Trailer and 1 Storage Bin outside in designated bin storage area will be permitted. Contractor is responsible for arranging any additional storage as needed off-site.

6. Based on the Lead paint survey and observation, it is assumed that all window frames and sills in Building 1 & 9 have lead paint.

7. Work on this project is expected to be completed prior to the onset of winter weather

Question and Answer 2

Q2:

1. The specifications state the shade cloth shall be translucent without any other identification of type. Usually it's a woven screen shade that come in varying degrees of openness that filter the light and UV rays out while allowing somewhat of a view. Please clarify material required.

2. In the specs, they call for lift cords to raise the shades, but how these shades are made is with a clutch control that has a beaded chain that by pulling it, turns the roller at the top, rolling the fabric up around it. Please confirm this is acceptable.

Also it says for the shade to have a sewn in pocket at the bottom of the fabric with a wood slat inserted into it. Nowadays there is a bottom rail that fabric is secured into. It gives the shade more weight to lay flatter and is far more durable than the old wood slat style.

3. Please confirm that these improvements in fabrication are fine.

A2:

1. Shadecloth Anti-Microbial Characteristics: ‘No Growth’ per ASTM G 21 results for fungi ATCC9642, ATCC 9644, and ATCC9645. It is a visually transparent single-fabric Shadecloth, single thickness, opaque non-raveling 0.030-inch (0.762 mm) thick vinyl fabric. Dense Linear weave pattern 3% open.

2. Yes the clutch control with a beaded chain is acceptable.

3. The bottom rail instead of wood slat is acceptable.

QUESTION AND ANSWER 3

Q3:

There is no specification for the “Privacy Film” indicated on the Window Schedule. Please provide what type will be needed.

A3:

Privacy Film: Opaque White Privacy Glazing Film

1. Ultraviolet Rejected (ASTM E 903): Not less than 99 percent.

2. Visible Light Transmission (ASTM E 903, ASTM E308): Not more than 6 percent.

3. Visible Light Rejected (ASTM E 903): Not less than 52 percent.

4. Solar Heat Reduction: Not less than 41 percent.

5. Shading Coefficient at 90 Degrees (Normal Incidence) (ASTM E 903): Not less than 0.29.

QUESTION AND ANSWER 4

Q4:

1. Glass specification (1.4.C - section 088000) calls for the glazing to be blast resistant. However, the windows are not required to be blast resistant. Please confirm.

2. Receptors are at windows heads, and sills at window are detailed. Jamb receptors are not drawn. Would like to recommend jamb receptors be added to provide both better caulking surfaces and to aid window anchorage, in particular since most of the windows are fixed.

3. Please specify a gauge for the brake metal trim.

4. Brake metal trim at window heads: these will need to somehow be mechanically fastened. We would not want to rely on mastic to prevent these pieces from falling over time. Also, the same head trim looks like a likely place for future water infiltration to occur. We are not fond of the brake metal trim that is detailed. Is not a panning system doable? In that event, the receptors could be eliminated. In our opinion, panning would provide a much better job, at probably less cost than brake metal.

5. What is the active window performance requirements?

A4:

1. Blast resistant glazing is required for the basement and first floor for building 1 only.

2. Jamb receptors are not required.

3. 16 gauge brake metal trim.

4. Full bed mastis is required on all surfaces of brake metal per construction drawings. Panning system can be provided as an alternate. Upon award of this contract, contractor is to provide system details and information.

5. The glazing performance requirements are indicated in Specification 08 80 00 Article 2.6.C.2

QUESTION AND ANSWER 5

Q5:

1. In the pre-bid the architect stated that the existing aluminum windows and frames plus the original wood window frames need to come out at building 1. Could you give us information on how many windows have this double frame in them?

2. If original wood frames are to come out do they have the weighted pockets in them?

3. Some contractors took dimensions of the new windows to be put in. According to them the dimensions on the prints are from inside of original wood frame to inside of original wood frame. Could you send new dimensions for the new windows from outside of wood framing that is to be removed?

A5:

1. Approximately 75% of the existing windows have the original wood window frames intact.

2. It is to be assumed the existing wood frame is intact and that the weighted pockets are also still intact.

3. Each window is required to be field verified prior to manufacturing. General dimensions are indicated.

QUESTION AND ANSWER 6

Q6:

What wage rate should we use for glazer?

A6:
