SECTION 23 51 00BREECHINGS, CHIMNEYS, AND FLUE VENTING - GENERALSUMMARYSection Includes: Include labor, materials, equipment, and accessories to breechings, chimneys, and stacks.Provide prefabricated chimneys for gas and oil fired equipment.Provide breechings.Provide prefabricated diesel engine exhaust system.Provide accessories required for complete installation.SUBMITTALSProduct Data: The scope of work to be provided by manufacturer will be shown on Shop Drawings. All materials to be provided will be noted as will materials and work designated as "by others" on such Shop Drawings. Shop Drawings will contain details and complete information on all chimney accessories to be provided by manufacturer. Shop Drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer before the start of fabrication to review the Drawings.Shop Drawings: Submit a portfolio showing overall length and height of breechings and chimneys with section cuts and number of sections used.Thermal Analysis: Submit thermal analysis showing incremental system temperature drop, hot face and cold face temperatures under 15 mph wind, and no wind conditions with 70 degree F and 0 degree F ambient conditions.Certifications:Submit manufacturer's certification that chimney and breeching will withstand system pressures.Submit manufacturer's certification that chimney lining meet the requirements of sulphuric acid immersion test.Operation and Maintenance Data: Submit manufacturer's descriptive literature, operating instructions and maintenance and repair data under provisions of Section 01 77 00, Closeout Procedures.Warranty: Submit copy of manufacturer's standard warranty.DESCRIPTION OF WORKGeneral: Extent of work included in this Section includes chimneys for heating boilers and chimneys for water heaters. Types of breeching and tack required for Project specified in this Section, and listed on schedule located on Drawings, include the following:Type B, Double Wall Gravity Gas VentsPositive Pressure Breeching and StackQUALITY ASSURANCERegulatory Requirements:State Building Code DivisionLocal Codes and OrdinancesLocal Authority having jurisdictionChimneys: Chimney sections shall bear factory applied UL label.Installer Qualifications: Work shall be performed by a company specializing in installation of specified work with 3 years documented experience, approved by manufacturer.Fabricator: A firm with at least 10 years of successful fabrication experience on projects with free-standing chimneys similar to that required for this Project. - PRODUCTSMANUFACTURERSAcceptable Manufacturers For Dual Fuel Double Wall Chimney: Double wall, metal chimneys, and breechings shall be Model PS, Factory-Built Heating Appliance Chimneys as manufactured by Metalbestos as the basis of design. Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows:MetalbestosAmerican Metal ProductsSelkirkHart and CooleyScheblerDuraventAcceptable Manufacturers For Type B Vent Piping: Double wall, Type B, gas vent piping shall be Metalbestos as the basis of design. Subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows:MetalbestosMetal FabSelkirk Inc.Acceptable Manufacturers For Lined Prefabricated Chimneys: Venting shall be a UL listed, factory fabricated chimney, subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents, acceptable manufacturers are as follows or Owner approved equal:Van-Packer Company, Model HTSelkirk Inc.Acceptable Manufacturers For Factory Fabricated Breeching: Breeching shall be factory fabricated breeching subject to compliance with requirements of the Contract Documents; acceptable manufacturers are as follows or Owner approved equal:Van-Packer CompanySelkirk Inc.DUAL FUEL-DUAL WALL CHIMNEYGeneral Requirements: Factory built chimney shall be laboratory tested and listed by the UL for use with building heating equipment burning gas, solid or liquid fuels, as described in NFPA No. 211, Appendix A, Columns I and II (Standard UL 103-1969) which produce exhaust flue gases at a temperature not exceeding 1,400 degrees F under continuous operating conditions.Fabrication: Double wall metal vent piping shall have an outer casing of aluminum coated steel, 0.025 inch thick, an inner casing of No. 316 or equal corrosion resistant stainless steel, 0.035 inch thick, and a minimum dead air space of 1 inch.Seal inner pipe joints with V bands and P-2000 ceramic joint cement.Materials: Double wall chimney and breeching shall consist of, as a minimum, dual wall pipe, ventilated roof thimble/support assembly, boiler kit, starter piece, expansion fitting, adjustable roof flashing, high strength support base, full angle or ring support piece, storm collar, and stack cap.TYPE B VENT PIPINGGeneral Requirements: Type B, double wall gas vent piping, continuous from flue connection on heater to a level above roof that is code compliant.Provide tees, caps, support plates, and miscellaneous fittings for a complete system.Parts of vent system shall be listed with UL.LINED PREFABRICATED CHIMNEYBoiler Stack: Stack shall consist of factory fabricated, UL listed chimney sections with steel jacket and 3-inch thick, acid resistant, castable refractory lining. Inside diameter of stack shall be _________inches. Joints in assembly shall be made up with silicone joint material and shall have aluminum drawbands set in silicone gasket for a waterproof joint.Jackets: 26 gauge aluminized steel with stainless steel riveted seams or 11 gauge galvanized steel with welded seams as shown on Drawings and Designed.Refractory Lining: Capable of withstanding 1,800 degrees F continuous firing and 2,000 degrees F intermittent firing.CONTRACTOR FABRICATED BREECHINGBoiler Breechings: Constructed of 14 gauge black steel with welded seam, gas tight, with connections as indicated on Drawings. Breeching shall be same size as boiler outlet, shall be adequately sized for boiler used but not less than sizes indicated on Drawings, and shall extend to inside face of masonry in chimney.FACTORY FABRICATED BREECHINGGeneral Requirements: Breeching shall consist of straight sections, fittings, and accessories, as individual pieces or in combination lengths.Expansion: Provide expansion joints to accommodate anticipated movement for each specific installation.Openings: Provide openings as required for temperature sensors and other items being furnished with appliance.Boiler/Low Heat Appliance BreechingsMaterial: Model LW/HT.Flue Liner: 10 gauge carbon steel. Provide 1-inch wide flange fully welded to each end of flue to provide for bonding sections.Insulation: 2-inch rigid cellular glass.Insulating Bedding Material: Non-flammable, fireproof, insulating bonding material.Jackets: Hydraulic setting, fiberglass reinforced compression coating.Drawband: Provide 8-inch wide aluminized steel drawband, bonded with 4-inch compressible mineral fiber, to cover flanged joints.Diesel Generator Exhaust SystemsMaterial: Model EE/HT.Jackets, Straight Sections: 26 gauge aluminized steel with Pittsburgh seam.Jackets for Fittings: 16 gauge aluminized steel with welded seams.Insulating and Sound Deadening Refractory Lining: Capable of withstanding temperatures associated with medium heat appliance chimneys.Drawband: Provided beaded drawband with refractory cement and silicone adhesives for refractory joints.ACCESSORIES FOR LINED PREFABRICATED CHIMNEY AND FACTORY FABRICATED BREECHINGManufacturer's Standard Accessories: Cleanout sections, T-sections, straight sections, elbows, flashing, counterflashing, insulated thimbles, spark arrestor, and ____________ .Floor Supports: Manufacturer's standard 11 gauge prime painted supports with companion sections of 26 gauge aluminized or 11 gauge galvanized steel jackets as shown on Drawings and Designed. Provide UL listed brackets to be welded to jackets, allowing for 1/2-inch expansion.Gasket Material for Cleanout Door and Caps: High temperature ceramic fiber rope.Gasket Material Between Sections of LW/HT Breeching: High temperature silicone sealant.Joint Cement: Manufacturer's acid resistant cement.Sealant: Silicone sealant for use when flue gas temperatures may be less than 350 degrees F or pressures will be greater than 6-inch w.g.FABRICATION FOR LINED PREFABRICATED CHIMNEY AND FACTORY FABRICATED BREECHINGSections, Fittings, and Accessories: Fabricate as individual pieces or in combination lengths for field ponents With Centrifugally Cast Lining: Fabricate in lengths suitable for connection with drawband. Bond refractory with calcium aluminate cement.Chimneys: Fabricate with anchor lugs, cleanout, provision for support, expansion and contraction, T-sections, flashing, and counterflashing.Breechings: Provide with supports from building structure so as not to exceed permissible loading to appliance and chimney.CONDENSING HOT WATER BOILER VENTING:Condensing boiler venting is to be an engineered double wall venting system. All products must have a factory adhered gasket. Acceptable manufacturers are as follows or Owner approved equal:Schebler ManufacturingHeat FabMetal Fab - EXECUTIONINSTALLATION - FACTORY BUILT CHIMNEYSInternal Support: Support and resupport chimney at 35-foot intervals by means of factory supplied support plates, tested and listed by UL.Horizontal runs shall have a minimum of (1) hanger per section.Chases: Chimneys passing through occupied portions of the building shall be enclosed in a 1-hour rated non-combustible chase. Unenclosed chimneys penetrating a combustible roof structure shall be protected by a factory supplied ventilated roof thimble.External Support: Chimney pipe extending above roof surfaces shall terminate as required in Appendix D of NFPA No. 211, or in accordance with local code, and shall be properly guyed or supported every 24 feet to within 12 feet of the factory supplied top.Stack shall be supported from roof assembly with a high strength roof support.Dual Water Heater Stack: Stack shall be ___ -inch inside diameter double wall Type B vent, supported by horizontal run hangers and support at roof.Refer to Drawings for flue height.Kitchen/Laundry Water Heater Stack: Stack shall be ___ -inch inside diameter double wall Type B vent, supported by horizontal hangers and support at roof.Refer to Drawings for flue height.Boiler Stacks and Breeching: The main boiler stacks shall be __ -inch inside diameter I.P.S. Stacks for each boiler supported by a high strength support base.Provide guy wires at 8 feet above roof and at top of stack.Refer to Drawings for stack height.Summer Boiler Stack and Breeching: The summer boiler breeching shall connect to one of the main boiler stacks.INSTALLATION - LINED PREFABRICATED CHIMNEYS AND FACTORY FABRICATED BREECHINGInspection:Verification of Conditions: Verify that preceding work is properly prepared to receive work of this Section.Conditions: Beginning of installation means acceptance of existing conditions.Preparation:Coordination: Coordinate breeching installation with other Contractors and appliance installer.Installation Instructions: Make installation in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and UL listing.Supports: Support breeching in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Provide flanged and bolted inspection doors with gasket.Barometric Damper: Provide properly sized barometric damper on breeching.Support Locations: Provide chimneys with fly ash screen. Support at bottom, roof, and intermediate levels.Drainage Provisions: Install breeching and chimney with positive slope back to appliance, with suitable means for drainage of condensate.Boiler Breechings and Stack:Boiler Breechings: Securely support breeching from ceiling construction with 1 1/2-inch by 1 1/2-inch by 1/8-inch angle iron on 6-foot centers. Contractor shall caulk breeching connection gas tight. Coordinate breeching connection to stack through sleeve.Connection to Stack: Provide fittings and chimney material with connection to boiler stack. Provide hanger rod and support for breeching connection. External surfaces shall be treated and provided with a prime coat of paint suitable for service conditions. Stack and breeching in boiler room shall be given finish coat of paint to match boiler jacket.Barometric Damper: Boiler supplier shall furnish and install a Cole or Field barometric draft regulator or regulators in the breeching-stack arrangements indicated on Drawings as required and in accordance with governing codes.Finish: Breeching in boiler room shall be given finish coat of paint to match boiler jacket.INSTALLATION - CONDENSING HOT WATER BOILERS VENTING AND COMBUSTION AIRVenting: Construct and install gas vent system to develop a positive flow adequate to exhaust flue gases to outside atmosphere.Contractor shall provide counterflashing for roof curb and rain cap for stack.Intake: Construct and install an indirect air intake system for adequate air supply from outside atmosphere that incorporates a damper control with proving switch that has an interlock with the burner. Combustion air shall not be installed directly to the burner.
