2008 STARLAB Summer Science Enrichment Program

This program is available to students who are rising 6th—10th graders. Students will be exposed to public health and other health science related careers. They will also have the opportunity to participate in labs in the areas of “chemistry, biology, medical technology, and environmental science health awareness.” For more information, visit . ACE Camp 2008

The Atlanta Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. is sponsoring an aviation career enrichment camp for students ages 13-17. The camp will take place June 16-21, 2008 from 9 am to 3 pm at Georgia Perimeter College (Clarkston campus). Twenty students will be selected. The cost is FREE. ASSE

International Student Exchange Programs allows you to experience life in another culture and make close friends in your host country. ASSE was developed in 1976 as the American Scandinavian Student Exchange by the Swedish Government to organize student exchange programs between Sweden and the United States. ASSE maintains 31 offices in 31 countries and accommodates more than 30, 000 high school age students and host families annually in its programs in the participating countries. Aviation Career Education Camps Sponsored by Delta Airlines

Both week-long camps will introduce interested youth to the world of aviation by exposing them to the many challenging careers and opportunities which the aviation industry has to offer. Berklee College of Music Summer Programs

Berklee College of Music (located in Boston, MA) is the premier institution in the world for the study of jazz and contemporary music. It also offers a wide selection of summer programs for qualified participants who are not enrolled at the college. The minimum age requirement for all programs is 15; however, this may vary depending on the program. Boston University High School Programs Summer 2008

Boston University is offering two summer program options for high school students:

• High School Honors—This six-week residential program is for rising seniors. Students can either take two Boston University undergraduate courses or conduct scientific research. The application deadline is April 21 for students requesting financial aid and May 15 for students not requesting financial aid.

• Summer Challenge—This two-week residential program is for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year. Students have the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics, including business, journalism, law, creative writing, and more. There is no application deadline; however, students are encouraged to apply early.

Carnegie Mellon Summer Program

Attention SHS juniors and seniors! Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA is offering students the opportunity to spend six weeks in one of seven pre-college programs. The program is from June 28 to August 8, 2008. For more information, visit cmu.edu/enrollment/pre-college.

CDC Disease Detective Camp

The CDC Disease Detective Camp is open to rising juniors and seniors. The camp will be offered twice during the summer of 2008: July 7-11 and July 21-25. Both sessions will offer the same activities and will last from 9:00AM-4:00PM. Over the course of a week, participants will take on the roles of disease detectives and learn how CDC safeguards the nation’s health. Activities vary by day and may include short lectures by CDC experts, a mock press conference in the CDC press room, work in a CDC training lab, a look behind the scenes of CDC, and other hands-on activities. Participants will learn the methodologies used to track diseases in populations, basic lab procedures used in an infectious disease lab, and how public health research is applied at CDC. There is no cost associated with attending the camp, but each camper is responsible for bringing or buying his/her lunch. The deadline for applications is April 25, 2008. Clemson University Summer Science, Engineering and Architecture Enrichment Program

Georgia Perimeter College Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Summer Bridge Program

Georgia Perimeter College Summer Classes

Do you want to take summer classes to jump start your college education? If so, summer classes are available at GPC. Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants High School Residency Program

This program will be held at Georgia Southern University June 8-11, 2008 and University of Georgia July 13-16, 2008. It is open to rising juniors, seniors and rising college freshmen who have strong communication, technology, and problem-solving skills and want to learn about exciting career opportunities in accounting. Only students who are residents of Georgia or who attend high school in the state of Georgia are eligible to apply. Students get hands on experience through accounting case studies and computer classes.  The program introduces students to college life by hosting them in the dorms, attending classes, and eating in the dining halls. Presentations from representatives of national and local accounting firms, industry (Coca-Cola, Georgia Pacific), and government (FBI, SEC) help show the exciting and different types of job opportunities available in accounting. iDebate: Developing Leaders with General Tommy Franks

This is a five-day leadership development camp (located at Oklahoma Christian University) for high school students. Students will be trained in strategic thinking, planning, communication, teamwork, and persuasion. iD Tech Camps Nationwide Summer Technology and Computer Camps

iD Tech Camps is the nation's most recommended technology camp! Weeklong day and overnight summer technology programs for ages 7-17 at 50 prestigious universities in 22 states. National Bar Association Crump Law Camp

Do you know of a high school student interested in the law? Students can spend a week with NBA lawyers and judges learning how to draft documents and argue before judges. The National Bar Association Crump Law Camp was established by the National Bar Association Crump Law Association to provide students entering the ninth through eleventh grades (between the ages of the 14 and 17) with an introduction to the American judicial system. Participants will be housed on the campus of Howard University. This summer, the camp will be held July 6-19. Tuition for the camp will vary depending upon family income and number of dependents in the family. For more information and application materials, visit . Ohio Northern University Camp GEMS

July 22-25, 2008

Camp GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) is an engineering, mathematics and science camp designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in young women entering grades 7 and 8 in the fall. This 4-day long, residential camp features hands-on activities in math, science and engineering along with other activities such as swimming and tennis. The camp is design for the all-around student, not just those who excel academically. All sleeping, eating and instructional activities are located on the campus of Ohio Northern University located in Ada, OH.

Oregon State University Summer Experience in Science and Engineering for Youth

Southern Regional Health System “Volunteen” Program

Southern Regional Medical Center is sponsoring the “Volunteen” Program. Students will have the opportunity to volunteer in various areas including radiology, emergency, medical-surgery, nursing, and more. Syracuse University Summer College Programs for High School Students

High school students may choose one of nine academic pre-college programs in acting/musical theater, architecture, art and design, engineering and computer science, law, fashion and textile design, liberal arts/arts & sciences, management, public communications. Union College EDGE - Summer Engineering Workshop for High School Girls

July 15-27, 2007

Twenty-two high school girls from around the country take part in an engineering workshop tthat enhances the quality of life for bran damaged children taught by college faculty with the assistance of local high school teachers. The workshop theme is "Toys and Tools for Disabled Children," which focuses on developing technologies to enhance the learning activities (toys) and communication skills (tools) of disabled children. The girls will be engaged in: Bioengineering, Robotics and Communications. Evening and weekend recreation activities will be included.

The University of Chicago Summer Session 2008

The University of Chicago offers a wide array of unique programs for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors through its Summer Session programs for high school students. Students may take undergraduate courses for college credit while sitting alongside other high school and college students from around the globe. Students are taught in small classes by professors and experienced lecturers, and can select courses from more than 150 offerings in the arts and sciences, including 19 ancient and modern languages, economics, and the College’s renowned Core Curriculum. Starting in the summer after 8th grade, success-oriented students with backgrounds under-represented in engineering colleges and the profession (specifically female students, students of color, and first-generation college bound students) attend multi-day workshops which provide students with an introduction to engineering. Workshops for students entering 9th and 10th grade are held in various location in the Denver-metro area. The combined 11th and 12th grade weeklong, residential workshop is held at the ITL Laboratory on the CU-Boulder campus.

University of Dayton Women in Engineering Summer Camp

A six-day residential program that introduces high school women to career opportunities in engineering. Participants experience a total immersion into the world of engineering through classroom activities, participatory experiments, visits to industries, and contact with practicing women engineers. University of Idaho Junior Engineering Math and Science Summer Workshop

July 13-25, 2008

A pre-engineering program for students who have completed their junior year of high school, which includes classes in engineering design, computer-aided design, human factors, and engineering problem-solving. Participants also attend laboratory classes in several disciplines including chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, computer systems engineering, and computer science. University of Texas at Tyler RISE: Research Involving Student Engineers

July 13-19, 2008

UT Tyler will be offering a residential summer camp for 10-12th graders interested in engineering and computer science this summer. This camp provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for young engineers and scientists to design an experiment to collect data from the atmosphere using instruments launched as payloads on high altitude balloons, the same sort used for meteorological purposes. Students will determine the experiment they wish to conduct, determine the required data, and design, assemble and test the instruments needed to collect this information. At a later date, these experiments will actually be conducted during a balloon launch which students may attend. In addition to these activities, faculty from the College of Engineering and Computer Science will conduct workshops introducing students to career and educational opportunities. Advising staff and student mentors will discuss appropriate preparation for college and STEM related careers. Cost is $299 and some scholarships are available to deserving students that may need financial assistance. Application deadline - May 23rd.

Wright State University Girls Ready to Explore Engineering Now (GREEN) Program

July 22-25, 2008

The GREEN Program is a fun-filled 4-day residential camp for rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade girls. Campers will experience engineering in the real world and the academic world through interesting design projects, tours, interactive activities and much, much more! Girls will be supervised 24-hours a day by current engineering students, trained in CPR and First Aid, as well as staff from the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
