2018 TOURNAMENT RULES 12U

1. All games will be played in accordance with (A) 2017 PONY Official Baseball Rulebook & the following amended rules.

2. USA bats and USSSA bats will be allowed. No 2 ¾ barrels

3. 9 Players on the defense. Coach may choose to bat 9, 10 or entire roster. Coaches may substitute players and starting player may return one time (except at pitcher). Substitute will be out of rest of game.

4. Only the head coach can dispute a call. The rulebook must be in coaches possession (no rule book-no discussion) Judgment calls cannot be disputed.

5. A batter is automatically out if the bat is thrown, on the second offense. (One warning per team)

6. There will be one offensive timeout per inning (TOTAL) to talk to batters.

7. The batter and all base runners must wear helmets. Metal cleats are not allowed.

8. Each team must have at least seven (7) players for the game to begin.

9. A complete game is six (6) innings. However, 1:45dropdead only in Pool Play

10. THE 5 RUN per inning RULE WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT

11. Both teams will report runs to the umpire each half inning. Umpire will maintain the game scorecard. Both coaches upon completion of the game must sign scorecard. Home team will maintain official scorebook, insure names are on the score sheet.

12. In pool play, home team will be determined by coin flip prior to game. The home team will run the score board and announcing of the players at the scoring table. The home team will be the official book and communicate with the umpires. In bracket/ELIMINATON play, the higher seed, ie. #1 seed will be the home team.

13. No bat with a barrel larger than 2-5/8” diameter will be used.

14. Hurry up rule will be in effect meaning that the catcher and pitcher can be replaced by a pinch runner anytime in the inning. Pinch runner will be last “batted” out.

15. IN BRACKET PLAY, GAME CANNOT END IN TIE. A WINNER WILL BE DETERMINED

16. No jewelry may be worn, except for medical reasons.

17. No infield before the game, players may warm up in the outfield and they may take grounders on the foul sideline.

18. No intentional contact (during close play), with a base runner will be allowed. Instigator can be called out, or thrown out, or cause umpires call to be reversed at the discretion of the umpire.

19. A maximum of (7) pitches will be allowed between innings. When changing pitchers, additional pitches may be allowed at the discretion of the umpires.

20. Infield fly rule will be in effect.

21. A slaughter rule will be in effect 15 after 3 innings. 8 runs after 4 innings.

22. If a coach is thrown out of a game for any reason, that coach will sit out the rest of that game and will not be allowed to coach in there next scheduled game.

23. If a player is ejected from a game, it will be an automatic out in that inning, and every other inning as his turn at bat comes up, if your hit your entire line up. If you have a sub, you can replace him.. He may play in the next game.

24. Fake tags on base runners will be considered an obstruction.

25. The pitching rubber will be 50 feet and bases at 70 feet. .

26. Base runners may lead off & steal any base.

27. Umpires will call balks. Balk is determined by umpire’s discretion. Each base runner to advance 1 base.

28. If there is a play at any base, the runner must make attempt to avoid contact & or slide. Illegal contact will be determined by umpire and subject to being called out. Just make sure to tell your kids to slide.

29. IN BRACKET PLAY, ALL INNINGS PITCHED PER PITCHER WLL BE RESET. REST RULE STILL APPLYS

30. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT PITCHERS ARE NOT OVER USED

Pitching Rules

COLUMN A – The maximum number of innings a pitcher can pitch in one (1) day and still pitch the next day.

COLUMN B – The maximum number of innings a pitcher can legally pitch in one (1) day.

COLUMN C – The maximum number of innings a pitcher can pitch in three (3) consecutive days.

Mandatory Days of Rest

A player that pitches more than three (3) innings in one day Must rest the next day.

A player that pitches eight (8) innings in two (2) consecutive days Must rest the next day.

A player that pitches three (3) consecutive days (regardless of total quantity of innings pitched) Must rest the next day

One out equals 1/3 of an inning.
