The smallest improvement in a athletes performance could be the difference between making it as a professional or not. As technology in society advances, methods used to analyse players and team performance have developed and improved. Within clubs, the results of player and team analysis are used to develop training schedules and improve performance. The role of a match analyser within a club may be highly regarded as already outlined by Laura Smith (key Speaker) from Luton Town football club Scenario – The Academy Director has made a decision to incorporate more player and team analysis into the academy at your club. The Director believes that the use of match analysis/performance profiling will support the development of the younger players. This analysis will be aimed at the Under 14 onwards academy teams. However, a number of parents have expressed concerns that their children within the team are too young to undergo such scrutiny. Therefore, you have been asked by the academy director to prepare and deliver a presentation to the parents about match analysis/performance profiling as part of your 2 work experience ActivitiesBelow is an invite to the parents of the players, requesting that they attend an evening where they will learn more about performance profiling and match analysis at the clubInvitation to a Parent/Coach Meeting @ City-Rangers-United Training Ground on the 31st March Performance Profiling and Match Analysis The evening will give you an opportunity to meet coaches and discuss your son’s progress at the club so far. The meeting will also provide you with more information about performance profiling and match analysis and how it can be used to develop your son’s performance. The evening will be hosted by the Academy Director at City-Rangers-United. Yours TrulyAD Academy Director Please RSVP ASAP Assessment Guidance: The Academy director would like you to prepare and deliver a presentation. The presentation will be in 2 parts and it will provide the parents of the youth players an opportunity to understand the benefits of performance profiling and match analysis. Your presentation must include the following 2 parts:Task One: You must describe/explain/analyse (P1, M1, D1) the performance profile of a footballer, including the technical and tactical requirements, physical requirements, physiological requirements, psychological requirements and the biomechanical requirements. (P1, M1, D1)Task Two: In this part of your presentation you should describe (P2) five factors that may influence the performance of a footballer. You should include both intrinsic and extrinsic factors (P2)AssessmentGrading CriteriaP1describe the performance profile of a selected sporting activityP2describe five factors that may influence the performance of an athleteM1explain the performance profile of a selected sporting activityD1analyse the performance profile of a selected sporting activityAssessment and Grading Criteria DescriptionsWhen you see describe you should try and paint a picture in words to the reader. It is useful to always think that the reader of your script knows nothing and therefore you have to teach the reader the knowledge that you have through your assignment. When you are asked to explain you should describe the point and then give details and reason of why. For example, if you are describing sporting injuries to explain the injury you would provide an example from the world of sport of an athlete who has had the injury and explain the causes of this injury to the player, you may also explain the treatment to the player. When you are asked to analyse you should select the key points that you have been asked to look at and explain each point providing reasons for each point and possible impacts. E.g. if you where analysing the recent success of Chelsea Football Club. You would pick out the key factors behind Chelsea’s success; Money; Manager; Key Players – Frank Lampard, etc. you would then explain the contribution each person has had on the success of the club and what the club could do in the future to continue their reignGrading Tips P1 – The evidence produced for P1 should clearly show that learners have described the performance profile of football. Learners should look to cover at least five key components, one from each oftechnical and tactical, physical, physiological, psychological and biomechanical. As is clear from the assessment and grading grid, grading criteria M1 and D1 build on this descriptive work.Performance profile: Technical and tactical, e.g. shooting, crossing, catching, passing, tackling, heading, dribbling, striking, positional play, style of play; Physical (health- and sports-related fitness); Physiological, e.g. heart rate, warm-up, cool-down, lung function;Psychological, e.g. motivation, anxiety, arousal, attention, confidence, aggression, relaxation, concentration; Biomechanical (quantitative and qualitative), e.g. linear displacement, velocity of releaseM1 -For M1, learners need to explain the performance profile. For example, greater discussion/ justification will be required to state the key variables they have chosen, such as explaining why concentration is important for a scrum-half in rugby.D1- For D1, learners must analyse their performance profile. The analysis should include sport-specific examples to support the analysis, and can also be supported by existing research.P2 - Requires learners to describe five factors that may influence the performance of a footballer. Learners should be able to distinguish which factors influence the performance of an athlete and should provide examples of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors.Assignment 1: Importance of Performance ProfilingUnit 19 – Analysis of Sports Performance Final Hand in DateFeedback1st draft(met/refer)Final draft(met/refer)PowerPoint P1:describe the performance profile of a selected sporting activityP2: describe five factors that may influence the performance of an athleteM1: explain the performance profile of a selected sporting activityD1: analyse the performance profile of a selected sporting activityAssessor SignatureKevin Browne Student SignatureDateDateEdexcel BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness)Unit 19: Analysis of Sports Performance Assignment 2: Match AnalysisLearning Outcomes:2,3,4Criteria: P3, P4, P5, M2, M3, D2 (Please tick where evidence has been submitted)Evidence you need to submitTick in box if submittedTask 1:Create analysis sheets for a player and apply them through observational analysisTask 2:5 to 10 minute ‘one on one’ interview with your player from task 1 to provide feedback on your analysisTask 3 10 minute presentation on the purpose and resources required for analysis at different Levels of Performance Date Issued:04/07/12Submission Date:03/12/12Date Submitted:Learner Name:Learner Signature:I certify that the work submitted for this assignment is my ownAssessor Name:Kevin Browne Internal Verifier:Carlos Munoz Date:11/07/12Given the huge amount of time, dedication, investment and reward found in football and sport today, players, coaches and managers ought to value the importance of observing, analysing and evaluating skills, techniques and tactics. Within clubs, the results of player and team analysis are used to develop training schedules and improve performance. The role of a match analyser within a club may be highly regarded as already outlined by Laura Smith (key Speaker) from Luton Town football club The Academy Director is very happy with the presentation materials which you have developed for the parent evening and would like you to contribute more to this topic on Analysis. The Director would like you to carry out an analysis and provide feedback to the player as a pilot study to see if it will work. You will do this by creating data analysis sheets, which you will use to analyse the performance of a player. You will also be required to provide feedback from your analysis to your player, under the supervision of the Academy Director (your tutor). To conclude, you will also be expected to deliver a 10 minute presentation that will explain the purpose of, and the resources required for analysis at two different levels of performance. Assessment Guidance: Your Match Analysis and Feedback must include; Task One: Plan and assess the performance of an academy player during a competitive match, focusing on three components of their performance profile (P3). You will be expected to create observational checklist/tally sheets to assist in your analysis.Note; In order to meet the requirements of M2 criteria, you must work on this independently (M2).In order to meet the requirements of D2 criteria within this task, in addition to the requirement of P2 and M2 criteria, you must also analyse the performance of the academy player of choice using three components of their performance profile (D2) (P3, M2, D2)Task Two: Based on your findings in Task 1, provide feedback to the player in a ‘one on one’ interview with your lecturer/tutor present to assess your delivery. Within your feedback you should include the following; Strengths of their performance Areas for improvement of their performance; SMART Targets for further development (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time bound)Short Term Goals for further development Medium Term Goals for further development Long Term Goals for further development Recommendations on how to attain these targets and goals, eg skills training, training for specific components of fitness, technique coaching specific to movement, psychological training (concentration, anxiety and arousal control)Note; In order to meet the requirements of M3 criteria within this task you must provide this feedback to the player independently (M3)(P4, M3)Task Three; Prepare and deliver a 10 minute presentation which explains to the parents the purpose of, and resources required for analysis at two different levels of sports performance. This activity is the practical element, which is driven by the selected variables described in P1. For evidence of the assessment, learners could include a copy of their raw data sheets, questionnaires or transcribed interviews. It is important that learners are clear that they only have to use three of the five components described in P1. M2 - For M2, learners need to perform an assessment of a footballer, showing autonomy (doing it by yourself) throughout the process. D2 - For D2, learners need to analyse the performance of the selected footballer using three components of their performance profile. Learners will need to consider the bigger picture, for example when looking at a defenders passing success they will also need to consider the impact on the game and team, such as the attacking play. Additionally, they may also consider the implications for the opposition. They will need to link their findings with appropriate sport and exercise literature to support their analysis.P4 - Once the practical element is complete the learners should look to meet P4 where they should provide feedback to the athlete/sports performer based on their assessment, with tutor support. If feedback is provided verbally, tutors will need to confirm whether this criterion is met by providing a witness statement/ observation record. M3 - For M3, learners need to provide feedback, showing autonomy throughout the process.P5 - Criterion P5 is a stand-alone criterion and learners must explain the purpose of, and resources required for, analysis at two different levels of sports performance. Within this criterion learners should explore issues such as the purpose of analysis, and resources available for analysis to take place.Learners should be encouraged to use the centre’s own athletes to aid their assessment as this increases the availability of participants for testing.
