Step 1 – Change your Sky Broadband wireless router settings

1. Open a web browser window. Enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and press Return.

2. In the log-in box, enter username: admin and password: sky.

3. From the main menu on the left had side, click Wireless Settings under Setup.

3a If you do not intend to use the router to provide a wireless network then clear the tick box for Enable Wireless Access Point. This will prevent any unauthorised user from accessing your wireless network.

3b If you intend to use the Wireless Network, then change the default Password (also referred to as a Network Key) in the WPA-PSK Security Encryption section to one of your own choosing. Your password can be characters and numbers – we recommend a mixture of both. Type in your new Password, then click Apply.  This will make it very difficult for any unauthorised users to access your wireless network.

4. Write down the new password (network key) somewhere secure or on your Wireless Settings ‘Keep me handy’ card provided with the router, to be stored in a safe place.

Step 2 – Reconfigure your PC wireless key

If you have changed your wireless password (network key), you will need to reconnect to your Sky Broadband router. The steps may vary depending on whether you are using the Microsoft Windows Wireless Network Manager or other wireless manager. Examples for Microsoft XP is shown below.

1. Double Click the icon at the bottom right of your windows task bar.

2. A list of the available wireless networks will appear, including your own. You can identify your own network by looking at the label in the bottom of your router (SSID: SKYxxxxx) or in the ‘Keep me handy’ card provided with the router.

5. Double click on your network. A window will appear asking for your new network key.

6. Ensure you write the same Password (Network Key) as you set up in your router. Click on Connect.

You should now be connected to your secure wireless network.
