Quick Start Guide

VitalQIP?AMS 500

Thank you for choosing the VitalQIP? AMS 500 appliance. The AMS 500 appliance comes preloaded with the Appliance Management Software. Upon successful configuration, the AMS 500 will

host the centralized Appliance Management functionality for AMM/ESM appliances. This guide is

intended to help you configure the AMS 500 appliance. Box contents

Your shipping carton should include: 1 AMM 500 appliance, a Quick Start Guide, and a 12V power pack and power cable. Prerequisites

A static IP address should be made available for use by the AMS 500.

Appliance setup instructions

1. Connect a network cable to the Ethernet port labelled NIC1 on the back of the appliance. 2. Connect a monitor, a mouse and a keyboard to the appropriate ports on the appliance. These

devices can be removed after the initial setup. 3. Connect the supplied power supply cable to the back of the appliance and to a power source (110v

or 240v). The appliance automatically powers up after the power source is connected.

4. You should see a flickering green light indicating connectivity on the network connection on the rear of the appliance. If you do not see the light, call your network support team to check on network connectivity. If the cable has network connectivity, and the connectivity indicator is still not lit, call Alcatel-Lucent support.

5. The system boots up. Once the boot is complete, log in as amsadmin, with a password of amsadmin. Result: The Red Hat Desktop GUI is displayed.

6. Open System | Administration | Network. Result: A prompt asks for the root password.

7. Enter the root password: changeit Result: The Network Configuration screen opens.

8. Double-click on the eth0 device entry. Result: The Ethernet Device screen opens.

9. In the Statically set IP addresses section, enter appropriate values for the Address, Subnet mask and Default gateway address fields. The values can be obtained from your network administrator.

10. Click OK to save. 11. Close the Network Configuration screen.

Result: A dialog box opens with the message Do you want to save your changes? 12. Click Yes to save the changes.

Result: A dialog box opens with the message Changes are saved. You may want to restart the network and network services or restart the computer. 13. Click OK. 14. Logout and reboot the machine.

15. Once the reboot is complete, log into the AMS 500 as amsadmin, with a password of amsadmin. Open a

terminal window and ping a known IP address to make sure that connectivity is established. 16. Start the web browser and enter . 17. When the AMS UI opens, log in as amsadmin, with a password of amsadmin. Confirm that the license agreement

comes up. At this point, the AMS 500 is up and running. The monitor, mouse and keyboard can be removed from

the system. 18. To change the time zone, login as root from ssh user and execute following commands:

a. # mv /etc/localtime /etc/localtime-old b. # ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/[Region]/[Location] /etc/localtime

Configuring Lights Out Management The AMS 500 appliance is equipped with Lights Out management capability that provides the ability to remotely manage the

appliance using a web-based interface. To configure Lights Out, do the following: 1. Connect a network cable from a laptop to the NIC 1 Ethernet port on the back of the appliance (Lights Out uses a

shared NIC). The laptop needs to be able to access the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet.

2. Access the web-based interface by entering in a browser. Login with Username "ADMIN" and Password "changeit".

3. Click on the Server health tab and verify that the server health is reported as healthy. If not, contact Technical Support.

4. Select Configuration/Network to set the network settings. Select Configuration/Users to set the ADMIN password. Save the settings.

5. To remotely launch the system console, select Remote Control and Console Redirection.

6. Disconnect the network cable from the laptop and connect the appliance directly into the network.
