Debuting in 1936, the Lincoln-Zephyr was priced to fill the gap between the Ford Deluxe and the Lincoln Continental, and was promoted as "affordable luxury."
It featured an integral body frame construction and the first all-steel roof offered on a Ford passenger car. The V-12 engine was developed from the Ford V-8 with 4 additional cylinders and a 75 degree V rather than at 90 degrees utilized in the V8.
Zephyr sales nearly doubled in 1937, its second year, but with the outbreak of WWII in 1942 the line was discontinued and wasn't reintroduced until 2006.
