Killick3 of 12ChairmanIt is with pleasure that I present the Chairman’s report for the 2018 annual report.I would like to start by acknowledging that of the many changes in 2018 one of the biggest was the absence of Steve Allinson. 2018 was the first time in 26 years that the board of management didn’t have Steve as a member. Of those 26 years Steve was our treasurer for 23 years. A mammoth effort and current and past members of Geelong Umpires pass on our thanks to Steve for his tireless dedication during his time as a board member.Stepping into the role of treasurer this year for the first time was Mark Davison. A role which Mark filled with competence and innovation. I wish to acknowledge Mark’s diligence in finding different ways in which the association could reduce its expenditure, in particular in regards to our phone bill and our security costs. Mark also modernized our finances with the introduction of the MYOB accounting software to record our income and expenses. Mark also made it possible for uniform purchases for our new uniform (refer to section on new uniform further in this report) for returning members to be heavily subsidized. Our association was well served by our other board members also with Bill Harrison again fulfilling the challenging role of Welfare Officer, and our other directors Sue Williams, Peter Thompson and Peter Schilder all contributing their time, labour and dedication for the benefit of the association.Due to medical reasons Jayson Killick resigned from the board part way during the year. Our representative on the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust board was again Jenny Wood.In the heartbeat of our association, our administrative office, we welcomed Andi Shepherd in 2018. Andi has seamlessly fitted into our association and has served our members well. Andi is the first point of contact for our association and has had to put up with my constant requests – not an easy task when some mornings she would arrive to find that I’ve sent in umpteen emails all asking for something to be actioned. Andi has played a big part in recruiting St. John ambulance as a tenant who will utilise our rooms during business hours in 2019 after the departure of Leisure Networks during 2018.Another big change in 2018 was the introduction of our new uniform. We changed to both the same color (AFL green) and supplier as the uniform worn by AFL umpires. As has happened in previous instances when we have updated our uniform it was a big logistical challenge. The burden of this challenge was eased though through the efforts of Mark Davison and the assistance of Peter Schilder, Sue Williams, Ashleigh Lynch, Cohen Lynch, Peter Thompson, Jock Hillgrove and Andi Shepherd.A couple of “firsts” that were implemented this year included:The introduction of a family fun training night and bbq during pre-season. This event was well attended with many family members and/or friends taking the opportunity to join in our training and have a go at blowing the whistle or waving the flags. The night itself was successfully coordinated by Steve Guarnaccia, so thanks to Steve. Our season launch was made a compulsory function this year. By making it an expectation that all members attend we were able to reduce the price for members from previous years. Whilst acknowledging that there was a small pocket of members who disapproved of this decision the vast majority of members were either supportive of it or not fussed by it.An initiative that we trialed during the year, after receiving feedback from last year’s survey, was to have all-in training nights whereby all umpires of all disciplines and groups trained together as one big group. We had this type of training four times throughout the year with mixed results. We have been fortunate to again receive strong support from our sponsors in 2018. Our major co-sponsors were Metricon, and for the first time Victorian Regional Channels Authority. We also welcomed aboard Epworth Medical Imaging as a gold whistle sponsor, who joined our other gold whistle sponsors Buckley’s Entertainment Centre, Geelong Galvanising, Specsavers and for the 39th year, FCCS.I would also like to thank our silver whistle, bronze whistle and partner level sponsors for their support. The assistance we receive from our sponsors, whether it is financial or by discounts on their goods and/or services, can never be underestimated and it is imperative that all members use our sponsors when they are in the market for goods and/or services offered by these organisations. I would like to acknowledge the 2017 senior grand final umpires (all disciplines) who assisted throughout the year whenever I called upon them for assistance. Examples included emceeing functions, helping out in the kitchen on the nights when we served meals after training, cleaning up after meals, and coordinating training.Again this year we were fortunate to have access to our peers who officiate at AFL level. Chelsea Roffey was an ambassador for the Barwon region during the year allowing our members repeated access to Chelsea’s knowledge and experience. During the year other AFL umpires to also play a part in our year included Dave Harris, Ray Chamberlain, Shaun Ryan, Patrick Jackson and Steve Williams.Throughout the year we were again privileged for some of umpires to officiate in the Encompass Cup – held for the 10th time this year. We also played parts in the Bethany Cup and Pride matches. 2018 also saw the introduction of an Inclusion in Umpiring Program. This program, championed by Geelong Umpires Life Members Richard Underwood and Brendan Beveridge aims to bring people into our sport that may otherwise not have had the opportunity due to perceived limitations due to physical and/or mental health disorders. The number of likes on our Facebook page grew substantially this year with us reaching 720 at the start of November.Geelong Umpires were again the beneficiaries of the passion and dedication of AFL Barwon Regional Director of Umpiring, Jock Hillgrove. Jock put together a great coaching team (across all three disciplines), and an exceptional support team – think of the physio’s, fitness advisor and appointments coordinator to name a few. The unseen hours that Jock puts into umpiring in our region may often go unnoticed so I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Jock on behalf of all members of our association. Our affiliation with AFL Barwon has allowed some tasks and activities previously undertaken by the volunteers in our organisation to now be actioned by AFL Barwon. Next year we will be taking another step in moving across the sale of our on-field uniform to be managed by AFL Barwon. They will oversee the procurement of stock and the sale of items. We will maintain the ability to set the price of these items. The price of items of our on-field uniform will continue to be either at cost price or very close to cost price. What would our association be without Kevin McMaster? Whilst the task of preparing cool drinks on training nights may be the most visible of the input provided by Kevin it is by no means the only contribution he makes. Whether that be by making maintenance repairs or assisting in the office Kevin’s contribution continued again this year. Kevin and Dawn were also often seen on a Saturday night dropping into our rooms for a quick drink and a chat. Kevin – thank you from all umpires. This report marks the end of my time as Chairman of Geelong Umpires. A position I have held with pride. I would like to thank each and every member who has contributed to the success of Geelong Umpires in 2018 and wish them health and happiness.Bradley SmithCHAIRMANOffice AdministratorIt has been a pleasure to be employed as the first woman in the role which shows the change in society and diversity together with acceptance of women in a male dominated sport. As I am not a football follower I was surprised to learn the rules and knowledge of the game (even if I am a one eyed supporter of the umpires).I would like to start off thanking the Committee for selecting me for this fantastic role. It is usually rare to find a job that fits like a glove and to look forward to coming to work to find new challenges and the ability to try new things with the opportunity to initiate new ideas. The team together with Dave Harris and all the fantastic people prior to me taking this role has been great support in all my day to day challenges and I appreciate both the Committee and all the fellow umpires for making this journey a fulfilling one any many more to come.I have met many wonderful people both through hiring the hall, events and connections to the resources I require to improve and develop moving forward.Brad Smith has been a great member in striving to bring out the best in me and I will sadly miss his determination, drive and fun banter in ideas to improving the Umpires League to its peak of success.Meeting the faces of many denomination’s, race, creed and ability has taught me to better improve myself as a person in both character and performance. For this I thank you all.Andi ShepherdOFFICE ADMINISTRATORFINANCIAL DIRECTORS ReportRefer to attached Financial ReportMark DavisonDirectorGeneral Board Memeber ReportSue WilliamsDIRECTORWell what a year we have had, we started the year by having our pre season training sessions down at eastern beach, then we started training back at the rooms, we had our season launch at Buckley’s Entertainment Centre, where our guest speaker was Razor Ray Chamberlain senior AFL field umpire, it was a great night and I was helping Bill on the door by taking money and making sure things ran to plan.I have been involved in a few things this year and some of these were helping out at functions, like the first years night, helping out with family night, being in the office to help Andi out when needed. I also went around to business to ask for donations for our 50/50 raffle as well as help with the sizing of uniforms the handing of uniforms out, stocktake of the uniforms new and old, I was lucky enough to get a polisher from Repco Geelong in Myers St, which was raffled off to one of our lucky umpires. As a high light of this year for me is I got to meet Teddy Whitten Jr, at the Life Members night, he is an inspiration to all, what he has done for pancreatic cancer in honour of his dad is an amazing achievement and hope he keeps up with all the good work he is doing. I also had the pleasure to introduce Teddy to some of our senior umpires, for which I look up to in many ways and the dedication that they put into umpiring can rub off on me in more ways than one.Presentation night was a great success and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners of all awards that were handed out on the night, great achievements were made this year by all. If I have missed anything I’m sorry, but this year has been a great year and I cannot wait till the 2019 season to start so from my family to yours I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and safe new year and I will see you all in the new year, please take it easy on the roads over the break, we would like to see everyone back next year and make 2019 another fantastic year for our club..Peter ThompsonDIRECTORI thoroughly enjoyed my first year as a Board Member. In the 6 years I’ve been involved with Geelong Football Umpires League, I’ve grown to love the organization and will do anything I can to help it remain a success. In saying that, my main role on the board this year has been the stocking and maintenance of the bar. Through my employer, I managed to facilitate 2 donations of 5 boxes of beer each. I also used to shop around and buy any other stock needed at the cheapest price to maximize profit.I also managed to get donations of 3 X $50 Cellarbrations vouchers for the 50 x $50 voucher raffle. I also managed to get a donation for our 2nd prize of a $250 IGA voucher. I really appreciate the support from my employer for this and will hit them up again next season.I hope everyone has enjoyed a successful 2018 and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and an even more successful season 2019.Peter SchilderDIRECTORThis year has been a great year in welcoming new members with Bill and Sue, I attended the first years night, helped out at the life members night where we Got to meet Teddy Whitten Jr and the comedian sorry don’t remember his name I also helped out with all the functions like 50/50 raffle and triva night. Which allWere successful, attend Gdfl grand final dinner also issued new uniforms started can recycling repaired goal umpiring training posts. Sue and I attended the grantstalk that Deakin held with Christian Cousins to try and secure another grant for more flags for our goal umpires but we were unsuccessful this time around nevertheless wegave it our best shot. I only hope that in 2019 our association grows to be bigger and better for our members as we pride ourselves on being the best there is in the Great Geelong region. But for now I am going to wish all members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2019 and we hope to see everyone back here for another exciting year of umpiring. RECRUITMENT & WELFAREBill HarrisonDirectorI have enjoyed my twelfth year on the Board of Management. It has given me a strong appreciation of the wide range of functions, activities and responsibilities undertaken by my fellow Director’s and their valued planning and initiatives. I had leave of absences from the 21/02 to 25/02/, 16/05 to 30/05, 07/08 to 13/08 and10/10 to 22/10/2018, whilst travelling overseas with my wife Emma. With the GFUL 2016-2020 strategic plan being actioned in January 2016. I continued my responsibility for supporting the Recruitment in Schools Program, Management of our Human Resource functions and provision of welfare support and associated programs relating to our membership. Our running membership declined by 20 this year affected with the introduction of Sunday boy’s and Senior Women’s, leaving only the under 19 colts competition on a Saturday morning. Many of our younger members who play football of a Sunday could not umpire with us of a Saturday morning with no junior games being played. The following table gives an indication of our membership numbers between 2005 and 2018.YearTotalMalesFemalesFemale %200528026416620062612481352007244230146200829125536122009318269491520103573025515201133527758172012328279491520133342944012201434230537112015361312491420163623224011201736532738102018345318278 The GFUL had a number of new running members this year totalling 55-gender breakdown male’s 51 females 4. I created an online job vacancy at Deakin University from 1st April to 31 August 2018, to assist our recruitment program. With respect to my role as Director of Human Resources & Welfare, I have been involved in the following areas:Human ResourcesAssisted in the recruitment process for our General Managers vacant position during September 2017 leading to the appointment of Andrea Shepherd. Board members Mark Davison and Brad Smith supported me. Managed our Welcoming Officer Program throughout the year. Its main criteria are the Welcoming of new members and parents of younger members to our organisation. Peter Schilder, Andrea Shepherd, Jason Hillgrove supported this program all contributions were highly valued.Reviewed and implemented our Good Sports Smoking policy, Andrea Shepherd obtained signage through the City of Greater Geelong to be displayed in our rooms.Attended as a GFUL Director and stakeholder various football activities and functions throughout the year. Keeping up to date on the strategy direction of local football and having input on behalf of our membership where appropriate.Assisted with the ordering and distribution of our new umpiring uniforms, well done to Mark Davidson and Brad Smith who implemented this change over to new uniforms.WelfareAssisted our members using the GFUL Welfare Standard Operating Guidelines throughout the year on a number of issues with the support of Jock Hillgrove and Brad Smith.Assisted with the coordination of the Bethany Cup a football game between Geelong Amateurs and Torquay Football and Netball Clubs on the 01/07/2018. This joint initiative between Bethany Community Services, both football clubs and ourselves was to raise awareness about domestic violence.Facilitated an information session provided by Bethany Community Support staff member Kristy Berryman on the 4 June 2018. It provided an overview of the many varied support services Bethany is involved in.Facilitated an information session provided by Total Care Podiatry on the 21/05/2018, as a part of our member welfare program.I was appointed Child Safety Officer in accordance with new legislation that required all sporting clubs to have a nominated officer. I completed the child safe standards checklist as a requirement. In closing, I would like to thank my fellow Board Directors, Jock Hillgrove our Director of Umpiring and Andrea Shepherd our Administrator for their outstanding support. To my wife Emma for her understanding throughout the year with the time commitment required in being a running umpire and Director of the GFUL with the associated responsibilities involved.AFL BARWON Regional DIRECTOR OF UMPIRINGIt gives me great pleasure to present my annual report for 2018.Firstly I would like to thank all the AFL Barwon umpire coaches and support staff in Geelong and Colac for their commitment and efforts in delivering coaching programs that has impacted on improvement for all umpires, we saw outstanding umpire performances in all finals games across the Region, I am very proud of the people who umpire games each week, I am particularly proud of the club affiliated umpires who, without you many games would not go ahead, so from all your peers and to every person involved in umpiring well done.Although for the first time ever AFL Barwon reached 501 umpire participants, this didn’t necessarily translate to “actual” weekend Colac/Geelong Association umpire numbers. Geelong was impacted with the introduction of Sunday boy’s and Senior Women’s competitions and Colac were still stagnant in 2018, with Geelong reaching 345 (-20) umpires, coaches and support staff, while Colac grew from 71 umpires to 74 (+3) including coaches. We have had another 82 (+32) people registered as participating in umpiring which was made up from registered club appointed umpires through to registered School based umpire academy participants. Umpire absenteeism still remains challenging with around 15 - 20% unavailable each week; this is mainly due to family, work and school commitments. Umpiring needs more people involved as the rapid growth of the game is still well ahead of any growth of umpires numbers. Geelong Umpires have a bold target of 700 umpires while Colac Umpires need 100+ We must continue to encourage people to “give umpiring a go”, we know it’s one of the best seats in the house and a great way to stay in the game, former footballers of all ages are strongly encouraged to try umpiring, our umpiring programs offer a supporting and welcoming environments and former footballers can value add their experience back into the game.AFL Barwon has a very diverse group of people who participate in umpiring. Umpiring does offer opportunities to people of all cultures, ages and gender, with strong accredited coaching and support personal for anyone that wants to be part of the game as an umpire.*Table includes all participants registered in 2018An Indigenous Umpire Academy will be launched by AFL Barwon in late 2018 in the hope to engage further growth into umpiring through different parts of our local community.AFL Barwon introduced an all abilities Umpire Program mid 2018 through the supporting efforts of AFL Barwon Commissioner Richard Underwood and Geelong Umpire Brendan Beveridge where 3 participants were identified and able to be trained and umpire in a live match late in the season. We know this program can be further developed and showcase that anyone wanting to participate in AFL – can. The AFL Barwon Region was again very well represented with umpires and umpire coaches from Geelong and Colac in the AFL Victoria 2018 Worksafe Country Championships, V/Line Umpire Academy, V/Line Cup and TAC Cup matches.Over 50 umpires were involved in these programs which allowed for greater development of individual umpires by being exposed to higher opportunities similar to that as offered to players. The Geelong Umpires also have 2 umpires nominated for AFL Vic. Trials for the upcoming 2018 season.AFL Barwon Umpire Coaches Allan Grant, Joshua James and Boundary Umpire Jack O’Neill travelled with myself to AFL Western District to manage and deliver the V/Line Academy program (3 sessions) in Warrnambool from Feb to March, thanks for giving up your time to support our colleagues in the West.AFL Barwon had 11 Umpires and 3 Umpire Coaches attend the 2018 V/Line Cup and was the most represented from across the State, a great outcome and credit to our umpire coaching staff and developing umpires.Joshua Robertson (field) and Max Visintin (Boundary) were elevated to the VFL Development Squad in 2018.Brodey Hamilton appointed as Goal Umpire to the AFL Vic Country v AFL Vic Metro match after a strong performance during the 2018 Worksafe Championships, umpires from Geelong and Colac were well represented across many of these games further enhancing the quality and depth of umpiring we have in the AFL Barwon region. Our AFL Barwon School Based Umpire Academies again proved valuable with students participating in an umpiring specific program through Clonard, St Joseph’s Colleges and Trinity College (Colac). seven students went on to join Colac Umpires, while a further 6 joined Geelong Umpires during 2018, all of whom were appointed to Finals and some Junior Grand Finals which further endorses the effectiveness of the program, whilst many of the other students have indicated they would look to umpire in 2019.AFL barwon further invested in the development and promotion of umpiring in the region with additional funding for a Colac based umpire coach (Linda Knight - Boundary) and engaged Chelsea Roffey (AFL Grand Final Goal Umpire) as AFL Barwon Umpire Ambassador.Chelsea delivered a number of promotional and recruiting videos (*40,000 unique views – Facebook) along with 4 PD sessions (1 Colac and 3 Geelong), Clonard College Umpire Academy session and attended several other events as part of her role, this was a great partnership between Chelsea and AFL Barwon and further promoted the role of umpiring to the broader community.Geelong Umpires were coached by dual Head Field coaches Davin Reid and Steve Keating, being well received by the group allowing more versatility in delivery of sessions, Jarrod continued his role as Senior Skills and Development Coach and umpired games throughout the year as a field umpire. Our Junior Field Development under the guidance of Darren Santospirito (Head Field Development Coach) and Joshua James (Assistant Development Coach), Goal team lead by Colin Hood and Rob Steel provided expert coaching and skills training throughout the season. We also had seven match day observers assisting the umpire coaches with greater performance feedback.AFL Barwon now has 100% of 2nd year and above Accredited umpires and all AFL Barwon Umpire Coaches fully accredited.A special shout out to Larry Donohue who without his efforts as AFL Barwon - Geelong Umpires Appointments Coordinator we would be in turmoil getting the umpires to games each week, this is a huge job that takes a lot of patience and persistence which Larry does without fuss, on the back of a hip replacement recently Larry didn’t let that stop him from doing his role, thanks Larry, great to have you involved in umpiring.AFL Barwon High Performance Umpire Academy again partnered with the Geelong Falcons, giving young umpires who have been identified as future VFL trialing umpires being “introduced” to what a “high Performance” environment is like and equip them with the skills and mindset that will be required as they progress, David Harris (AFL Umpire) lead the group of 16 umpires over 4 sessions, they all officiated the Falcons trial matches in February/March. Thank you also to Mick Turner (Falcons GM) for his support of the program which is the only TAC club to have an affiliated umpire program, unique to AFL Barwon, we also supplied umpires for TAC GWR Trials held in Camperdown.A last possession rule was introduced by AFL Barwon in 2018 and from ongoing feedback was an outstanding success, the rule allowed for clubs to no longer needing to find a boundary umpire and most importantly there was no players throwing the ball in which was the greatest impact and a key delivery of the AFL Barwon Commission direction, we feel the rule allowed a better viewing for spectators and it was great to see players adapt so quickly. Where the rule was implemented we removed boundary throw ins and replaced this with a field ball up 15m on to the ground, again giving us an opportunity to introduce newer boundary umpires into the game and learning all the skills of boundary umpiring without the pressure of throwing the ball in, this was achieved at training and when ready the boundary umpire was appointed to U19 and Senior football. As we move to 2019 umpiring will have many challenges across the Region, with the change in structure of junior football now established along with the changes to CDFNL as proposed in the 2018 CDFNL Junior review, and the senior women’s competition in play, all demanding the need for even more umpires, Colac umpires in particular need a stronger and urgent drive from clubs to assist in the recruitment of field umpires for their group, we are all in this together and together we can grow umpire numbers. It’s my view that AFL Barwon should look into doing a full review of umpiring in the Region, establishing greater improvements and outcomes for umpiring over the next 5 to 10 years. I continue to look forward to an exciting future for AFL Barwon, Geelong and Colac umpire groups as we establish more strategies that will recruit and more importantly retain community umpires, provide greater pathways for our talent umpires and deliver strong umpire coaching which will give us greater umpire performances to each game that is officiated in the AFL Barwon Region. In closing I would like to thank the AFL Barwon Commission, AFL Barwon Staff and Geelong Umpires BoM, CDFUA, AFL Victoria Umpire State Development Manager Russell O’Toole, GDFL executive, and all AFL Barwon/GDFL clubs.Thank you to Brad Smith (GFUL Chairman) and Daniel Williams (CDFUA President) for their support over their terms, with both not continuing in their roles in 2019 we acknowledge the time, contribution and sacrifice you have made to your Umpire Associations, it’s much appreciated by everyone in umpiring and AFL Barwon, well done and again thank you!I would particularly like to thank Lee Hartman for his leadership and support of umpiring and wish him well in his future endeavours. If anybody is interested in umpiring in 2019 please contact myself, GFUL, Colac Umpires or your local club. Jock HillgroveREGIONAL Director of UmpiringSENIOR FIELDThe field umpires coaching panel and observers managed to complete 360 observations for season 2018, averaging out to 6 observations per umpire. The 3-umpire system allows us to appoint 37 umpires to GFL and rotate 60 umpires through senior football including a number of debutants. We have, we believe, our most promising group of 15-18 year olds we have seen as a field umpiring group. We continued our team approach and were looking for a team performance on match days along with seeking a group contribution from individuals throughout the year, both at training and on match days.Congratulations to all grand final umpires.Congratulations to all V/Line Cup umpires and AFL Vic representative umpires. We would like to acknowledge and thank the following:-Jock Hillgrove and AFL BarwonBrad Smith and the GFUL Board of Management including Andi Shepherd for her hard work and quick responsesGary FlowersTony BrooksMark BushfieldDarren SantospiritoWe would like to thank Davin Reid for his contribution this season and wish him all the very best in his promotion to Timboon. Thank you to all our field umpires who make a fantastic contribution to community football. Thank you to your families for the support and assistance given to our umpires. We wish you all and your families an enjoyable break and look forward to sharing season 2019 with you.Steve Keating & Davin ReidSENIOR FIELD UMPIRE COACHESFIELD DEVELOPMENT??????? A good influx of development umpires making their stamp on senior footy through 2018.???????? Continued use of Umpire tracker as a recording and feedback tool.????????? Observations emailed directly from umpire tracker app, within 24-48 hours.???????? Unfortunately Thursday night training sessions were ceased as a result of fewer underage players having the option to participate in umpiring at junior level. ??????? Junior inter-league league representation.??????? Academy participation.???????? Great match day mentoring from senior umpires.??????? Exceptional finals campaign from the development group with terrific performances through all levels. Darren SantospiritoFIELD DEVELOPMENT COACHBOUNDARYFor season 2018 I was initially assisted by Chris Bell (who had to step down due to work commitments) and was replaced by Adam Bell (ex GFUL and current running VFL umpire) for season 2018 and Karen Wekwerth in the same role as last year as Development & Match Day Coach. The coaching group did a total of 178 umpire observations during the home & away season, a 15% increase from last year. The Boundary group had between 63 - 78 umpires available each week, with 42 senior level and 36 development. Unfortunately the availability of the group over the course of the season was hit and miss, along with correct use of the schedula system by 20% of the group, which with better training in the system operation (for both umpires & their parents) this can be rectified for next season. If we had all available during the season we could have covered more games as 3up or 4up.The Development group was bolstered by a good number of new umpires, with about 30% coming from the school academy or AFL Ump’ school visits. 13 umpires from the group made their senior debut and all of the group improved over the course of the season. This improvement was helped by Jack O’Neill, James Brayshaw, Patrick Cannard & Callum Edwards stepping up into more of a coaching role with the Dev’ group as part of their Level 1 Coaching Accreditation by assisting with Skills, coaching sessions and on field match day shadowing (with other senior umps’).During the Home & Away the group covered 90% of senior games, with the shortfall covered by Colac (a big thank you to Allan Grant for his help). Coverage of Junior games was minimal due to the implementation of the “last possession” rule in U/17 and below. The Development group did cover close to 50% of U/19 games each week on average. Also during the season the group had 4 umpires involved in TAC games, 10 involved in the V/Line Academy & 2 involved in the V/Line Cup. During the Finals Series the group covered all Senior, Reserves & U/19 games. For the Grand Finals the group covered Senior, Reserves, U/19, U/17, U/15 & U/13 Div 1,2 3. Unfortunately we were not involved in the women’s finals unlike last year. All performed extremely well and did the GFUL proud.Congratulations to Jaymee Guy the groups Most Outstanding recipient and Jack, Callum, James & Patrick for receiving the best clubman award, as well as the other award winners. In closing I would like to thank my coaching staff for their work during the season and most importantly the running umpires for their hard work at training & match days, along with the support of the Geelong Umpires Board & AFL Barwon for the opertunity to grow in this role. Enjoy the off season, stay safe and see you in 2019.Kel ClissoldBoundary CoachGoalThe 2018 season commenced with a revamped fixture with the introduction of Women’s Competition and the requirement to supply Goal Umpires to the Home and Away Competition for the competing 12 teams. Rob Steel continued as Senior Assistant Coach with assistance being provided by Ray Menzies who was re-appointed as a Match Day Observer. Their assistance, knowledge & feedback during the season has been invaluable for which I thank them each. 68 goal umpires were appointed to matches during the 2018 season. 11 New Goal Umpires officiated matches during the season.AFL Grand Final Goal Umpires, Chelsea Roffey and Steve Williams, attended training sessions during the season to assist with skill drills and to promote their individual knowledge.AFL Victoria Interleague Senior appointments– Brodey Hamilton, Lochlin Hamer, Ben Lunt & Sam Moerenhout.AFL Victoria Interleague u18 appointments – Blake Thomas & Taylor MooreBoy’s TAC Cup Appointments – Brodey Hamilton, Lochlin Hamer, Ben Lunt & Blake Thomas. Goal Umpires were appointed to 31 Grand Finals, through the GFL, BFL, GDFL, Colts, u17s, u15s, u13s, Women’s Senior Div 1 & 2, u18s & u15s all divisions. 2018 V-Line Cup Participate – Harry O’NeillAFL Victoria Country v AFL Metro Representative match @ Mars Stadium Ballarat – Brodey Hamilton Colin HoodSENIOR GOAL COACHTRIBUNAL ReportThe process for Reporting, Set Penalties & MRP that was adopted in 2017, continued to provide consistencies in outcomes and also a reduction in unnecessary Tribunal hearings. There were a total of 107 reports laid across AFL Barwon leagues in the 2018 season. This was a slight drop from last year. These reports comprised 64 Senior Grade, 10 Reserve Grade, 13 Under 19s, 17 from Junior Grades, 1 Netball, 2 from Female Football, and included 1 charge carried over from 2016. This includes 6 reports heard at Tribunal as a result of investigations at the request of Clubs, Umpires or League for various incidents, and 13 that were referred by the Match Review Panel.60 players accepted the set penalty option. A total of 187 matches will be or have been missed by players through suspensions received in 2018. A significant reduction from last year. Our Match Review Panel assessed 103 requests of which they found 39 reportable offences. 23 of these players accepted set penalties, 1 accepted a reprimand, 2 clubs were fined for engaging in a Melee, 6 were sent straight to tribunal and 7 challenged their charge at Tribunal with 11 found guilty. Our appreciation is extended to the members of the MRP who volunteered their time on a weekly basis to assess relevant footage as requested and provide their judgements. Tribunal results would indicate that their judgements were appropriate.I would like to congratulate Chairman Werner Weigl and his panel members for their work and measured but consistent approach. Arthur Hodgson and Damian McKeegan also did a great job as our League Prosecutors. I would like to thank Rob Drew for his work as Tribunal Secretary with the co-ordination, scheduling and running of the Tribunal sessions, I would also like to thank our Director of Umpiring Jock Hillgrove for his work co-ordinating and organizing the umpires and their advocates.TRIBUNALLeagueTotal ReportsSustainedNot GuiltyReprimandSet PenaltyGFL188109BFL2272013GDFL34124218U19s1320011AFLBJJF178108AFLBW21001Netball11010Totals107398360MRPMatch ReviewsRequestedTribunalSustainedSet PenaltyReprimandFinedNot GuiltyGFL26335000BFL457510012GDFL32338110Totals103131123122Match ReviewsNo ChargeWithdrawnNo VisionGFL918BFL1827GDFL1216Totals39421InvestigationsRequestedTribunalSustainedIncidentsNot GuiltyNot referredGFL233300BFL100101GDFL200202U19s100101GJF433401Netball000000Totals10661105Michael LimbAFL Barwon Tribunal CoordinatorYears Of Service10 Years: Frank Previti20 Years:Kelvin Clissold Milestones50 GamesNeil Ashworth, William Bothe, Jack Cain, Oscar Crocker, Ben Dines, Harry Dodds, Jayson Green, Jonathon Grills, Rob Knight, Cohen Lynch, Piers McKee, Hugh Menzies, Rory Monteith, Bernard O’Dwyer, Cameron Ritchie, Kyle Sykstus, Spencer Tattersall, Benjamin Tingiri, Timothy Tingiri, Grant Welsh, Susan Williams100 GamesTiana Bisinella, Marcus Boom, Jay Enor, David Frazer, Jake Hamilton, Jack Hastie, Taylor Higgins, James Lille, Dean Lobbe, Jordan Lunt, Molly McKenzie, Benjamin Peeler, Ethan Reeves, Brandon Richmond-Craig, Angus Rollinson, Will Ross, Clayton Ryan, Amy Scheitner, Jesse Schintler, Tyson Shiell, Jye Witham, Jonathon Zarb200 GamesChris Curruthers, Mark D’Alessandro, Brett Henshaw, Peter Nuessler, Andy Phillips, Trae Roberts, Graeme Robinson, Robert Shedden, Michael Susak, Louise Woolsey300 GamesRussell Campbell, Jess Crucitti, Andrew Guy, Richard Jones, Samuel Moerenhout, Shane Richardson, 400 GamesTrevor Abbott, Jake Baker-Brooks, Peter Elliott, Lachlan Grist, David Plumridge, 600 GamesDaniel Dorling, Terry Maloney, Peter Schilder700 GamesDavid House800 GamesAdam Edwick, John Villanti900 GamesRod Stokes1600 GamesNoel HooperLIFE MEMBERS1940*HEliott1946*BCollier1948*GAlldis1949*CRawlings1950*ABarnet1951*RJohns1951*VJones1951*WMahon 1951*EPell1952*HPeters1953*PSquires1954*GJackson 1955*HBeasley1956*JBeasley1957*GStokes1958*CEliott1959*WBravo1960*SPayne1961*CMatthewson1962*BCracknell1962*CTozer1963*CWelsh1964*EFoster1965*LMensch1966*EField1967*PHeap1968*RSpitty1968*HStapleton1969DClarke1970*ADoull1970*GGrass1970*EWills1971*JRobinson1972RArmstrong1972*HGoodgame1973*EAgg1974*BAnderson 1974*AColenso1974VRobinson1975KMcMaster1976WMinett1976GStribley1977PSynot1978EHuessi1978AMcLean 1979RGurrie1980KSaunders1981*JHenry1982GChidzey1983GKerr1983CMorgan1984DSharp1985ACarroll1986*RWise1987TCromer1988DGilmore1989REdwards1990PDoull1991RWhelan1992AGladki1993ASmith1994HWitcombe1995*HGilson1996NHooper1997SAllinson1998MFanning1998PHedges2000*DFelder2001MNolan2002DMcMaster2002PNelis2002NRobinson2003JBarron2003*JDavies2003PJones2003MOsborne2004RBeattie2004DChaston2004DHargreaves2004RStokes2005SCarbines2005RHallett2005DMcLachlan2006DCockerill2006PGrossman2006SMirabile2006*SPokorny2007BBeveridge2007MGray2007JHill2007JVervers2008WHarrison 2008JHillgrove2009FSchultz2010RBennett2010JHilder2010SRafferty2010MZaljevic2011LFormosa2011AGrant2012TLarkins2012RLawrence2012RMcKenzie2013TBrooks2013TMaloney2013JTatnell2014DBaensch2014SKeating2014PSchilder2014BSmith2014*RStephenson2015AEdwick2015RMenzies2015RSteel2016JVillanti2016RUnderwood2017ATouwslager2018SMcDonald2018RJones*Denotes DeceasedAWARD WINNERSMost Outstanding Umpires:Andy Barnett Award for Field UmpiresJarrod WaightJeffrey Walker Award for Boundary UmpiresJaymee GuyMark Osborne Award for Goal UmpiresDavid HouseMost Promising 1st Year Umpires:(Field) Charlie O’Neill(Boundary)Ezekiel Blyton(Goal)Kallum SheridanMost Improved Umpires:(Field)Bernard O’Dwyer(Boundary)Christopher Sirolli(Goal)Blake ThomasAFL Golden Whistle Award:Lachlin HamerBest Youth Umpire:James BrayshawBest Development Umpires:(Field)Harry GowerJack Ververs Award for Field Umpires(Boundary)Ben Tingiri(Goal)Will BotheMost Disciplined Youth Umpires:Graeme & Mandae Turner Awards(Field)Will Ross(Boundary)Jonathan Peck(Goal)Cohen ShannonCoaching Panel Awards:(Field)Trae RobertsDennis Hargreaves Award (Boundary)Michael Neaves(Goal)Ben DixonBest at Training:John ‘Ripper’ Robinson Awards(Field)Steve Guarnaccia(Boundary)Ben Tingiri(Goal)Harry O’Neill(Junior)Jonathon Peck(Female)Melody Blyton & Ruby O’NeillChairman’s Award:Steve GuarnacciaE.
