PGA MUSEUM OF GOLF SPEAKER SERIES TO FEATURE

HALL OF FAME MEMBER WALKER INMAN JR.

Presentation on June 15 to Celebrate Inman’s Nine Appearances in the U.S. Open

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Walker Inman Jr., a nine-time U.S. Open participant, six-time PGA Championship entrant and just the second Augusta, Ga., native to compete in the Masters, will be the next featured speaker in the PGA Museum of Golf Speaker Series at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Inman will appear Wednesday, June 15, from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m., in the Museum rotunda, located at I-95, Exit 121 (St. Lucie West Blvd.). The event is open to the public with complimentary admission, and will be held one day prior to the start of the 110th U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club.

A member of the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame, South Florida PGA Hall of Fame, Southern Ohio PGA Hall of Fame and Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, Inman served as PGA Head Professional for 37 years at Scioto C.C. in Columbus, Ohio, which became known as Jack Nicklaus’ home club. The 1975 PGA Golf Professional of the Year, Inman played in the 1956 Masters, after receiving an invitation to play from the legendary Bobby Jones. Inman’s family maintained a long-time, close personal friendship with Jones, to whom Inman accurately boasted at age 9 that he wanted “to be a golfer like you,” as they were introduced for the very first time.

Inman also played numerous rounds in his career with Arnold Palmer, who once borrowed Inman’s personally customized putter and used it to win the 1962 Masters. Palmer eventually gave the putter to Wilson Sports Goods to use as the basis of his line of DBAP putters.

A protégé of Henry Picard, Inman broke in at Canterbury Golf Club and became a PGA Professional in 1956. Inman has won two PGA Quarter Century Club Championships – a Champion’s list that also includes

Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Harry Cooper and Jack Fleck; and the 1966 PGA Stroke Play Championship. Some of the greatest teachers and players in the game have been mentored by Inman, such as Bob Ford, Rick Smith and

Ed Snead. In 1960, Inman’s golf tips were published in Sports Illustrated, while his intimate knowledge of golf courses became so legendary that Nicklaus once half-jokingly said, “Walker, you missed your calling; you should have been a golf course architect.”

“It is a great honor to have Walker Inman recount his trips to the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and Masters, as well as his many fascinating golf tales about some of the greatest names the game has ever known,” said Bob Baldassari, PGA Village general manager. “Walker Inman is the consummate PGA Professional, and his deep passionate knowledge of the game is astounding.”

The PGA Speaker Series will continue in conjunction with the British Open in July, with fellow PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame Member Bob Popp. Previous speakers have included the likes of

Dr. Gary Wiren, Dow Finsterwald and Errie Ball.

For more information, please visit museum or call 800-800-GOLF (4653). The PGA Museum of Golf is located at 8555 Commerce Center Drive, adjacent to the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance, in PGA Village.

While Museum hours are typically 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Fri.-Sun., through Christmas, the facility will be specially opened for the Speaker Series event. Admission is complimentary.
