MEETING MINUTES - Carolina Galaxies

Carolina Galaxies Gazette

Vol 6 /Fall/Winter 2007

Well, summer is behind us and the Nationals are just a few short weeks away. Normally this is the time of year when we “wind down”, but each year it seems more events are being planned for the colder months and this fall/winter there are car shows and cruise-ins everywhere! I’ve had some members ask about the Mooresville cruise-in so we are going to look into showing there. More info below. Please continue to pass on local show info for our website and newsletter.

Carolina Galaxies would like to welcome new members Terry Conway, Robert Rutherford, Neal Smith, Stefan Seidl and Donald Cranfill. Thank you for joining and see you at a show soon!

We had quite a few changes to our plans this year. We had to cancel with the Aug 5th Trans. Museum show in Spencer, NC due to lack of participation but we added the Great American Race show in Concord on June 30th. CG only had 5 cars there, but those that showed had a BALL! There were THREE Galaxies racing! I later discovered that the So-Cal Chapter met them at the finish line. I bet no other club was there at BOTH ends of the race! We also showed at the Fall Autofair on Sept 16th. We had 10 spots on Saturday and had a hard time filling them but managed to pull it off despite a no-show. Please, if you sign up, please make every effort to show up. The Autofair folks don’t give us extra passes so if you fail to show, then you are denying another member the opportunity to go. Plus an open spot means we lose spaces and get a less desirable location the next time. Hopefully with a good showing this spring we can improve our location. Congratulations to our award winners! Best Interior: James Thomas’ 66 hardtop, Best Exterior: Roy Mack Graham’s 64 convertible and Best of Show: Lester Edwards’ 61 Starliner. Good job and thank you for showing! Remember, you must register with Carolina Galaxies to show with us so call me with any questions you have about the Autofair. See the enclosed form for more info or to register for the Spring Autofair.

The 10th Annual Galaxie Nationals will be held in Dawsonville, GA on Oct 27th and 28th in conjunction with the Moonshine Mountain Festival. Atlanta Galaxies is the host chapter. This is probably YOUR ONLY CHANCE at a national event within 3 hours of our area for the next 2-3 years… maybe EVER! Check out the National website for more info. If you miss this, you have missed a truly magnificent show. Speaking of shows, were you aware of the Hillsborough NC Speedway show that was held on Sept 29th? It was a huge event held on the site of the former Occoneechee Speedway and is the only track remaining from the inaugural 1949 NASCAR season. Galaxieland director Wayne Hayes went and said it is a must see! Check out all the pictures at: Mark your calendars as we will show there next year!

My family and I are going to the Nationals and would love to see other CG members there so please let us know if you are going. Several of you have contacted me already… so if you haven’t please drop me a line or call. We will be showing together and having a chapter meeting as well.

Please look below your address to see if you owe dues. I try to be flexible, but dues must be paid on time to be fair to other members. Make your dues payable to Greg Patterson. The dues are as follows: 1 year = $10.00, 3 yrs = $25.00, 5 years = $40.00. We voted on this at our meeting held during the Concord show to see if anybody wanted to increase dues or opt for a one time fee. It was unanimously decided that present dues will remain the same. Also, we voted on a suitable charity to donate $40.00 to and the Victory Junction Gang Camp won!

Enclosed you will find the latest update to the chapter roster. Please keep your information updated by calling or emailing me. I’m also trying to validate dues payment dates so let me know if yours is wrong. Again, my home email is: gpatterson8@sc.. You will hear from me a lot if I have your correct email address. Also, the National club requires that you keep your membership current with them so please provide your national membership number if it isn’t on the roster.

Our website is online at: . There are photos, current events, future events, past newsletters and a classified section for you to sell your own items for free!

We still have chapter logo ball caps for $12.00 each. T-shirts will be available by the time the Nationals are here. Hopefully static cling decals/stickers will be ready too!

I’m still begging all of you to please show up at as many events that you can. That’s the BEST way to support our chapter. If your Galaxie can be driven, trailered, pushed or pulled, then it can be shown. Shiny paint is optional! I have NEVER felt out of place when my car needed work. So get that Galaxie out to a show or cruise-in. If the car is out of commission, then just bring yourself.
