MEETING MINUTES

Carolina Galaxies Gazette

Vol 2 Spring/Summer 2004

Well, we are FINALLY publishing our second Gazette! I wanted to keep it simple the first year or so, but we have so much info and chapter pics to share! We have been an official chapter for a year and we currently have 35 members! Since we just hit our first anniversary, some of us are due a renewal. Please look at the enclosed roster to check if you owe dues and update your info by calling or emailing me. If you don’t have an email address, try to get one! You get a lot more info from me that way. I get a lot of last minute notifications on shows, which leaves email as my only option. Also, please make sure your dues are payable to me as I cannot cash a check made out to “Carolina Galaxies” yet. Hopefully everybody will renew for a second year! If you are not renewing, please let me know what your concerns are… I want to make your chapter the best it can be!

I still primarily use my home address of gpatterson8@sc., but we have two email addresses: carolinagalaxies@ and carolinagalaxies@ to keep things simple when people can’t remember an address to reach us at. I still haven’t gotten the time to look into our website, so if any of you know how to build a website and have the time let me know and we can get the URL from Mark Reynolds to get started. Otherwise I plan to get it going this fall/winter. In the mean time, send in pics of your car if you want them on the site.

The Spring Autofair at Lowe's Motor Speedway was GREAT! This, without a doubt, will be where we have the bulk of our meetings. Large show and swap meet, great facility, lots of commercial vendors, etc. Charlotte is also very centrally located, but we can always move around.

We discussed some club business while sitting at the start/finish line. We have voted and selected a logo. It will be the outline of a map of NC and SC with the early 60s style fender eagle centered on that with two state flags instead of checkered flags, "Carolina Galaxies" across the middle and the national club logo will go on the bottom. I’m working to get a good copy to the printer to get it cleaned up. We also voted on whether to have “honorary members” and Dennis Carpenter was voted in. I spoke with Dennis later at his main tent and he expressed a great interest in being our first honorary member. He has offered to give our chapter a tour of his facility and the possibility of having a show or cruise in at his plant was briefly discussed. Welcome to Carolina Galaxies Dennis! The final vote was on the quantity and location of our meetings. After some discussion, it was decided to have 3 meetings and that the spring and fall Charlotte Autofairs will be our first and last event each season. The Shaw AFB show we agreed on was cancelled, but the Central Carolina Mustang Club sent me a flyer for their May 2nd show that very week!

The 26th Annual Mustang and Ford Show on May 2nd in Sumter, SC was a great success for us. As some of you may remember, this is we had our very FIRST meeting last spring! We had 8 members present, 6 with their Galaxies. Rain kept many away, but the real troopers were there! James Thomas Jr. drove all the way from Harlem, GA and Lester Edwards from Harmony, NC! Pics are on the next page! Everybody took an award as you can see in the last pic!
