A ratio compares two quantities. The common mathematical notation is A:B. For example, a ratio of 10:4 means that for every 10A there are 4B. Ratios are simplified wherever possible, for example if the ratio is 10:4 it will be shown as 5:2. It is even better if one of the numbers is a ‘one’.
