Course Description: Physics is a fundamental science that strives to describe the most basic elements of nature. Through inquiry and problem solving, students survey major themes of physics such as: kinematics-how things move; dynamics-why things move; energy-kinetic, potential, thermal, and nuclear; as well as waves-sound and light. Nuclear physics, Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, and other perplexing and interesting problems are explored. Of the senior science courses offered, physics is the most reliant on strong mathematical skills.

Assignments:

Before you write a unit exam, you must send me all assignments and labs leading up to the exam. Assignment and lab submissions MUST be very neat and well organized. Part of each unit assignment has answers to allow you to check that you know what you are doing. If you can't mark it correct, you should be asking for help. **Please check example of a homework submission.**

I assume that you will do all the required assignments. Success on the Unit, Module 1 and Module 2 Exams depends upon exposure to a large variety of questions and lots of practice.

Tests and Exams:

Unit exams include material from only that specific unit of study. Module exams cover multiple units of the course. All tests and exams are "closed book" and will be written on-site at Burnaby Online and must be scheduled with your teacher.

Resources:

Course materials are presented online via notes, videos, and internet links. There is no text required for this course, although you will be given one to use as a reference.

Students are expected to:

• contact the teacher by instant messaging, email or phone when help is needed or questions arise

• be actively engaged and submitting work on a regular basis

• inform the teacher when they will be inactive for two or more weeks.

• be aware that if they are inactive in a course for four or more weeks they may be removed from that course

• check their email at least twice a week

• create and submit completed solutions for all activities in the unit/chapter before requesting a test.

• cite all sources properly

• answer in their own words

• check that their work and tests have been marked.

• make time available to come in to Burnaby Online to write tests.

• make appointments to write tests at least 2 school days in advance.
