Welcome to First Grade - Council Rock School District ...

Welcome to First Grade!

The following information is intended to answer questions you may have concerning the first day of school. You will receive more information during Back to School Night. You can also check Sol Feinstone’s Website for information as well.

Arrival at School: Upon arrival, all students should go directly to their classrooms. This is the procedure for the entire school year. The school day begins at 9:10 A.M. each day. Students should not arrive prior to 8:50 A.M. Students are not permitted into the classroom until the first bus arrives.

What to Bring: The children should bring the following items to school on the first day:

← [pic]School bag filled with requested school supplies.

← [pic] Lunch- Your child will have the option to bring a lunch from home or buy their lunch at school using a pin pad and pin number (student I.D.). Choices include- “A lunch”, salad, school pizza, or the alternate box lunch. (Information about this will be available from the school cafeteria once school begins.) Snacks will also available for purchasing in the cafeteria at the end of each lunch period. More information on pricing will follow.

*EVERY day please make sure your child knows if he/she will be eating a packed lunch from home or purchasing a lunch from school. If your child is buying lunch, please discuss which option to buy. This eliminates a lot of anxiety while taking lunch count and getting the children ready for lunch. I would suggest packing a lunch the first week of school .

← [pic] Snack- In addition to a snack that you may include for lunch, students also need to bring ONE snack daily for our classroom morning snack time (around 10:30 A.M.). Please put this in a separate bag or container so that your child can tell the difference between their snack and lunch. Some suggestions might include pretzels, cereal, goldfish crackers, etc. Please no WET snacks. Your child will be eating the snack at his/her desk, so please send a napkin and any utensils needed. I cannot leave the room to get utensils in the cafeteria. Snack is intended to give them a little energy boost during the busy morning learning period. Due to the increasing number of nut allergies, please do not send in snacks that contain nuts.

← [pic] Water bottle- I will allow students to bring a water bottle to school. Please write your child’s name on the water bottle. It will be his/her responsibility to empty it at the end of each school day to recycle and refill at home for the following day.

Dismissal: I will follow this dismissal procedure throughout the school year:

Each day I will dismiss your child from our classroom according to the transportation method you have chosen for them. Dismissal is at 3:40 P.M.

If you are picking up your child before the end of the school day, please let me know in writing or by e-mail what time you will be coming. When you get to the school, go directly to the security office to sign-out your child. The office staff will call down to our room. I am not permitted to dismiss your child to you directly from the classroom.

If you would like your child to go home a different way than usual, I must have this in writing that day. I will also need a note if your child is going home with someone other than you and the reason why (ex: child care). If you change dismissal plans after 1:00, please call the office and they will put a note in my mailbox. Sometimes it is difficult for me to check my e-mail after lunch. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter. It is for your child’s safety!

****Please write all notes about dismissal on a separate sheet of paper so that I can send it down to the office.****

Important Papers:

All of your child’s school papers and important papers (from the office or PTO, handouts, required forms) will come home in a “Green, First Grade Take Home Folder”. This folder needs to be checked EVERY NIGHT. Please empty everything out of the folder nightly, and then return any forms or necessary paperwork the following day. You may attach notes to this folder so your child will be able to see them and hand them into me. There will be a specific location your child will learn that will be used for notes/checks.

*** Remembering to bring home, empty, notify parents of papers, and return the “Green, First Grade Take Home Folder” is part of your child's growth and independence. Therefore, I try to encourage parents to allow their child to become responsible, yet reminders are needed so that important documents are returned in a timely manner.
