Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s):

Welcome to the New Westinghouse High School. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you and your child at this new beautiful facility.

Attached is the syllabus for Art 1, which I have reviewed thoroughly in class with your child. It outlines the course and gives students and parents all the necessary information students will need to be successful in my class: supplies needed, a course description, objectives, grading information, scope & sequence, assessments, classroom policies. I hope that you will take the time to read over this syllabus thoroughly.

This course offers students the opportunity to explore the visual world through both observation and creative production. Class art projects, written assignments, sketching, journals, and digital portfolios(blogs) are just some of the activities your child will participate in throughout the year. Upon completion of this course, each student will have developed a visual arts portfolio with at least 10 artworks.

Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for you to visit the school and view your child’s artwork. You will receive information regarding these events as they occur. However, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time throughout the year.

Sincerely,

Mr. Myers, Art 1, Westinghouse College Prep High School
