2.4 Writing Linear Equations - McLean County Unit District No. 5

Algebra 2 2.4 Writing Linear Equations

Objective: able to write an equation of a line given the slope and a point on the line, and write an equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line Slope-intercept form of a linear equation

Examples: (a) Find the slope-intercept form of an equation of the line that has a slope of 2 and passes through (-1, 3).

(b) Find the slope-intercept form of an equation that has x-intercept = 2 and y-intercept = 4.

Point-slope form of a linear equation

Example (c) Write an equation in point slope form through the point (1,2) with a slope of 4.

2.4 Cooperative Learning

DIRECTIONS: With your partner, work out the following problems. You both need to record answers on your own page as you work together.

Write an equation in the slope-intercept form of the line:

(a) with m = 4 that passes through (7, 2).

(b) that passes through (2, 3) and (1, 5).

(d) that passes through (3, 2) and is parallel to the line whose equation is y = 5x + 1.

I don't get it at all

1 What do you still need to work on?

Rate yourself on how well you understood this lesson.

I sort of get it

I understand most of it but I need more practice
