Children are taught to divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number using the ‘bus stop method’. We teach the children to ask ‘how many x are there in y’ (e.g. ‘how many 3s are there in 9’ in the first example below). Any ‘left over’ would be carried over and written next to the adjacent number (as the 2 has in the third example below). ................
